but we were told that AFL is taking over Ipswich because it doesn't have an NRL club...

Sydney newspapers logic is that AFL is taking over every suburb down the eastern seaboard that doesn't have an NRL club.
You’re complaining that the Sydney media agenda is getting more Brisbane nrl clubs ?

lol

This is stupid

But it helps pave the way for Brisbane 3
This is no different to Keebra Park and their South Sydney Rabbitohs partnership agreement.

Obviously since Iona College and their association with Wynnum Seagulls (and by proxy Broncos) ended; they have now gone and linked up with Roosters for a new partnership deal.

If Broncos valued the college they would have pushed hard to keep them linked with Wynnum but they didn’t. This Roosters link will have no real impact.

These partnerships and academies are great for the game, we really need more direct pathways for kids locally. Brisbane is hugely under-represented by players in the NRL due to having only one pathway for decades.

However not every player wants to move away from Brisbane, they need direct, local pathways.
Brisbane really needs two more clubs, one near term and one more longer term. The Donkeys and Dolphins can't cover an entire city by themselves.

Where is academy based?!
Inside Iona College. Redlands.

95% of the kids who play RL at Iona would already play for Wynnum-Manly Seagulls.

Therefore if they’re in the Seagulls system; they’re technically in the Broncos system.

Seagulls are undisputed within Redlands. They are the regions QRL/Q-Cup club. Historically a very strong club both in seniors and their multiple junior clubs under the umbrella.

Whoever the Roosters look at talent wise within the school; the talent would have had Broncos run their scouts over already when that talent turns out for the Seagulls games. However Broncos have a habit of letting talent sometimes slip through the cracks. So there’s always a chance that Roosters might scout the talent that does.

This is crazy but could seagulls bid for 3rd team?! Richest club after tigers and dolphins. I hear they have new stadium / training ground on way. Leaves logan and Ipswich to Broncos and titans.

No, they couldn’t. Redlands is small compared to the other SEQLD RL heartland shires. There are richer clubs than WM Seagulls.

The region will always be Broncos territory. Roosters Iona College partnership will face the same plateauing issues as the Warriors Logan Council partnership. Neither is directly tied into an actual club, or clubs. Therefore whatever pathways exist will be extremely limited. In the Warriors case, no pathway exists. It’s literally just a geographical base to house a scout in. As for the Roosters it’s just one school to hopefully pick up a talent that falls through the cracks (if the talent attends Iona yet also plays for Seagulls in CC or MM JRL QRL comps).

Roosters and Warriors would have been better served trying to vie for the interests of a QRL club. Western Clydesdale would have been that club. Currently not associated with any NRL club and disregarding their senior Q Cup results; the entire Lockyer Valley and Darling Downs region is prime RL. A lot of talent there.

Roosters thought process might be a case of scouting a QLD located talent and without having that talent relocate to NSW; have them enrol into Iona and base themselves within SEQLD. If that’s the case then I can see the merit.

None of this makes any sense.

Iona is very much not in the Redlands.
Wynnum and Manly are part of Brisbane's bayside and definitely not in the Redlands.

No-one would ever say these things if they knew Brisbane at all.

Redland Shire. Bayside = is made up of Brisbane suburbs on the shore line and Redlands City Council suburbs along the same short line.

Wynnum and Manly are admittedly close to both boundaries of Brisbane/Redlands. You are technically correct.

Seagulls catchment is Redlands (City Council). Iona pulls majority of students from Redlands (City Council) locality.

I know Brisbane well. What part are you from if I may ask?

I'm a league nerd. I love reading stuff like this. I thought after tigers and dolphins way behind in third place were the seagulls?! Of the former brl clubs which is richest?!

For any non-Brisbane people reading this isn't some metro vs LGA or 'what is a city' thing.

What this poster has said is objectively incorrect, and there's no sense in what they've said. It's like someone confidently claiming that 2+2=5. It tells me that they have no idea what they're talking about.

The worst thing about the internet is how anonymity allows blowhards to say objectively wrong things and then double-down without any shame or repercussions.

Redlands is Brisbane, lol
It has its own mayor, own city council, own electoral, residents pay rates to RCC and not BCC.

It’s Greater Brisbane, like Logan, like Moreton Bay but they are also their own locations and regions with their own footprint and own general identity.

Norths Devils own two leagues clubs. Burleigh have their own assets. Jets own land + have a league clubs. Burleigh would technically be third, Jets aren’t far behind them. Norths are their abouts probably similar to Wynnum.

It’s not incorrect; it’s exactly how it’s seen. That’s how the rugby league clubs in around SE QLD are seen.

Nothing I said is incorrect; as a matter of fact as someone who once owned a property in Mount Cotton, Yeronga before that, Capalaba before that, grew up playing for Souths Magpies, went to school in South Brisbane, have a business located in West End and have current projects spreading from Pelican Waters to Coolangatta, Bundamba to Cleveland I’m well versed in knowing how the f*ck Brisbane and SE QLD is.

But thanks champ. Keep up the good work.

All the roosters are doing is proving broncos established players

Plus roosters aren’t patient enough to stick with juniors anyway they always look for the short cut to buy themselves out of trouble

Even the storm are finding it difficult to get good qld juniors and have focused more on Victoria

I know the chooks have links to some school in chch but clubs should be spending more in nz or Fiji for example

Just because you guys are posting a few tweets about non QLD clubs having "academies" etc doesn't mean any of this is new or hasn't happened before.

The bayside has its own identity that transcends the city council limits of Brissie and the Redlands. It’s probably the only part of SEQ that is like this, and from speaking with people out that that way they view themselves as their own community seperate to the stereotypical Brisbane rhetoric “north or south side” or “Brisbane vs other city” debate

Quick! Somebody phone PVL & tell him that AFL has taken over Wellington* - We need an NRL team over here ASAP!!

(*well actually, I saw a guy wearing an Essendon beanie in Lower Hutt Pak'n'Save this morning when I was getting some groceries....)
