Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Also a good proving ground for future expansion bids to iron out the kinks first

Eg Christchurch Fiji Adelaide
It'd be great to have NSW Cup become a test-bed for potential NRL bids, BUT with it currently being a de facto reserve grade, the NRL clubs in NSW Cup have an advantage over clubs that dont have a similar 1:1 feeder arrangement - particularly now that most of those are "in house" squads (only Newtown & Norths are currently co-opted by NRL clubs).

Queensland Cup is a fairer setup if we're looking to try potential NRL bid locations, just because you dont see that 1:1 relationship between state league and NRL clubs dominating.

Maybe that's a selling point of a NRL reserve grade competition - that it opens up the NSW Cup more for those far-flung clubs?

NSW is closer so the club pays less travel costs

PNG got promoted and other than one good year have been average in qld cup

Nsw cup is higher standard though

But it costs around one million pa to run a reserve grade side plus travel costs and chch bid may be reluctant to fund it without a team

If they do get advance notice of entry then they should start in nsw cup before hand to get travel logistics sorted out

Another Queensland derby would be great the market is certainly there in Ipswich should get a team before Adelaide in my opinion.

3rd Brisbane team is an ace-card the NRL has up it's sleeve. They know it's a huge money-spinning option, and are just keeping it for such time they need that extra cash boost.

There's a lot to navigate right now with Perth & PNG confirmed... and the decision on team 20 may come down to how well they go.

If those two teams prove to be tough work, it probably increases the chance team 20 will be in Brisbane and not NZ2.

It's looking increasingly likely IMO - and that'll be it for some time... which is a shame, as ideally we'd have Ipswich/Logan AND a 2nd NZ team added.
It’s not looking likely

Only if they delay team 20 till 2035

Dolphins need at least ten years of clear air and probably more

Also depends on the next nz tv deal

If it gets cut then sure a second team is less likely

Or the second team could be ce try valuable for whoever gets the tv rights

For someone like myself from the UK that doesn't understand the Australian sports market. Why would it be a bad thing for the AFL to have a Sunshine Coast team? It's one of the fastest growing areas in the country
Qld is a RL state and considering even the Suns are a money sink for the AFL, a Sunshine Coast team would be an even bigger money sink.

It's smaller than gold coast.

And the only venue suitable of being used got turned into a rectangle lol. And that rectangle is now having money thrown at it to be an even better rectangle

if anything Sunshine Coast gets an NRL team (albeit that’s unlikely unless Reddy relocate out of brissie)

Yeah, I forgot AFL needs oval venue. 2nd Brisbane is only choice but given how gws has gone..

We on here would all cheer them on if they did that. You think the Suns and GWS are a disaster, this will be much worse, I hope they do it

This new cas badge would look good for Brisbane Bengals (Easts) club playing in a Cincinnati bengals bright orange and black kit.
