"Everybody Loves Raymond" is getting a remake in the form of "The Smiths" across the pond on BBC.

"The Smiths" will be set in Cheshire, England and it follows the "Everybody Loves Raymond" story by having a Lee Mack play a sportswriter who lives across the street from his overbearing parents and brother. The pilot was written by Mack. Catherine Tate will play his wife.

American viewers will recognize Tate from her turn on "The Office" and as Donna Noble on "Doctor Who."

"The Smiths" will film in front of a studio audience on May 28.

This isn't the first time "Everybody Loves Raymond" has gotten an overseas remake. Series creator Phil Rosenthal made "Exporting Raymond," a documentary about his experiences making "Voroniny," the Russian version of "Everybody Loves Raymond."

What happened to them?

They've gone from Blackadder, Red Dwarf and Father Ted to Mrs. Brown's Boys and other steaming turds like this.

There's still good stuff being made - well recently anyway. IT Crowd and Ricky Gervais are examples.

Yeah, the IT Crowd's very good.

Other than An Idiot Abroad, Ricky hasn't done much for a long time.

Mrs Brown's Boys was picked up by Australian FTA, if that doesn't vouch for it's quality nothing will. Alongside other quality shows like Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, CSI and every reality show they can think of.

But Peep Show and the IT Crowd are very good in my opinion.

How could anyone try and remake Fawlty Towers? Has to go close to the best series of all time. A lot of respect for John Cleese for knowing when to stop, unlike American tv.

Peep show is a very strong show. The yanks just make better tv. I mean they also make the worst tv as well.

Yeah, it's a bit rough calling it dead when there's a cornucopia of good to great comedy still coming out of the place.

Peep Show is hilarious. Painful, but hilarious. If anything it;'s not that the quality of UK TV has declined (there's still great drama coming out of the UK too, Sherlock and Luther are two that spring to mind), but that American TV has really lifted it's game in the last decade due to the content produced by the pay TV channels (mainly HBO and AMC). Shows like The Sopranos, Entourage, Breaking Bad, The Wire and Game of Thrones have changed the face of TV IMO.

I'd agree with that, comedies such as Arrested Development. Curb, it's Always Sunny (not my favourite but not bad) have also helped, despite having some dross at the same time (everyone knows the shit american sitcoms).

It died with Little Britian, biggest tripe I've ever seen, it's like Kath and Kin on peptides.
