One positive to come out of the game was that we did go forward and we made heaps of ground when we held the ball for six tackles. We just had no idea to do anything than take 6 forward hit ups, we had no real options, we were unorganised and werent capable of doing anything.

OUR DEFENCE WAS ATTROCIOUS.

There is a definate attitude problem there with a few players.

Other players are just not up to the task that has been set them in the position that they are in.

I honesly believe that there is 5 years of 'damage' in the Club at the moment. I really honestly cant see Parramatta being competitive in the next 5 years if Smith is going to be there for 3 seasons. Sure we might make a Final Series, but we are never going to be a Premiership force.

I dont care what anyone says, there is simply something wrong with the current mind set of the Football Operations of the Club. I fear that things are only going to get worse unless something is done about it.

Fitzgerald and his attitude towards Smith is also part of the problem.

The Club needs to face facts. Every Coach has a use by date and Smith's has come. I said the day he was signed, before he even arrived back in Australia from the UK that he will be great for the Club and will make us succesful again. But the day will come when his use by date will arrive and he will have to be moved on. He should have not been resigned to continue beyond 2002. He should have moved to another club and made them successful and we could have given someone else a ago.

The Club needs to face facts, Smith is a good high quality coach, but he is no longer the Coach that should be coaching the Parramatta Club

Chipmunk, I was just thinking of how it's like 1989 all over again - third season after a big one, and no sign of recapturing that form again - the guns faces gradually being replaced with lesserlikes - Drew for Morris, Buettner for Wagon, PJ for Thorman, Bobcat for Hopkins, Moods for Wise, Clinton for sideshow.

Meanwhile, Hodgeson turns a good game in for the Tigers (as does Moods), and Heckenberg inspires Manly for a late win.

I agree Chipmunk. We need new blood as I don't know if a Smith understudy will help much either.

I didn't think Hodgson and Moodie were that great today.
Prince had a blinder for The Tigers.

Hodgson and Moodie were average in a average side.

Lyon, you may be right, but they were a shit load better than anyone we employed tonight to replace them!

I do think we have the player to be successful this year, but I think there needs to be major changes to our positioning.

Fullback: Luke Burt is too small and is incapable of stopping players on the line. Vaeliki is too slow and is prone to brain explosions. Pleae come back Ash Graham. In the meantime, give Prince a chance who impressed in his limited first grade appearnaces. I think even Wade McKinnon may be better option than Burt.
Wings: Eric Grothe obviously has one spot. I'd put Vaeliki on the wing. He finishes well and he's tall so would be tough be outbomb. Peterson is backup, Katerverata backup to him.
Center: I'd go with Luke O'Dwyer and Luke Burt. Burt's best football has been at centre. He is a fast, skillful player who creates chances, but can't do this at wing or fullback. Luke O'Dwyer has to be given a chance as he just keeps stepping up to player, somehwere and I don't think he's big enough to play in the forwards.
Five Eighth: I think Killer has to play five-eighth. He would be better defensively closer in, and would be a constant worry running off Dykes. Has all the skills. I think he's the option, until Witt with his superior kicking game makes the grade.
Lock: Hindmarsh: Absolutely should be playing Lock. Unlike some of his "big" teammates, he's fast enough and skillful enough to play this position.
Second Row: Cayless & Stapleton: I'd go Cayless and Mucket when he's back from injury but in the meantime, Stapleton has been good and to me plays more like a second rower.
Prop: Tsoulos & Armit: Give the young juniors a go. They dont' drop the ball, they're big and make tough yards. With players like Cayless in the second row, this is the perfect time to blood them.
Hooker: Hopkins: If Dykes is going to play a lot of dummy half, Morris is wasted at hooker. I'd prefer Hopkins at hooker to bolster defence. He's a very big heared player who's only let down by his hands. At hooker, this is not such a problem.

Bench. Wagon. Versatile and aggresive in defence I think his future is off the bench. Vella. On his last chances but like Wagon, if he's going to play first grade its got to be off the bench. Cannings He can be a star if he improves his handling, especially off the bench. Morris: Also versatile and could be called on for some spark, when needed. Needs to finally start showing his promise.

Others
Widders: If Widders is in form I would start him in second row ahead of Stapleton, one of the few Parra forwards who can break the line out wide. Otherwise, he would battle with Wagon for bench spot.
Pearson: After tonight's performance, is looking more like someone to call on when injuries strike.
Thorman: I think he will be our starting half once he becomes accustomed to pace of NRL, he is CLASS, with Dykes shifting to hooker or perhaps five-eighth again.
Witt: His future at Parramatta is at five-eighth. Needs to prove himself in Premiers and fight his way back into firstgrade.
Fui Fui Moi Moi: If Vella doesn't find form may be the impact player we need of the bench. Kafusi might also be an option for this spot?

Muckert and Graham will both play First Grade when they are fit.

Graham should get the full-back spot when he comes back

Burt is not a centre, too small, i would have him on the left wing with Vaeliki left centre. Having said that, I dont know much about O'Dwyer but I would maybe give him a go.

Grothe picks himself on tonight's effort, Lyon is too good to leave out of the side. So they would be your right side combo.

Dykes is a Five-Eighth. And if you put him on the wing, or at full-back, second-row, hooker or lock he is still going to play exactly the same way. So might as well play him at Five-Eighth.

Witt should be half.

Hindmarsh should be lock. Give him some more vesatile. I think there is a reason why they dont play him at lock though, which when i think about it more is pretty valid.

Muckert should be the Left Second Row and Cayless the Right Second Row

On tonights effort I would give Stapleton a start in the Front-Row. I would give Cannings a start as well. By the time both of those guys got on the field tonight the game was gone.

I would have Morris at Hooker

On the bench I would go with Specialist Impact players for forwards. You need 3 of the following players on the bench, Widders is a specialist put him in or get rid of him, maybe Armit, maybe Peek, maybe Tsoulos and maybe Kaufusi if he is fit and maybe even Moi Moi if they can get him fit, maybe Vella if you can get his mental attitude. There is only one way you are going to get use to NRL conditions and that is play NRL. You arent going to get NRL conditions sitting on the bench for Premier League so stick Thorman on the bench and bring him on and move Dykes, Morris, Witt around to suit what u want at the time.

Bite the bullet and stick with this side for at least a month, if not longer

I think there are others that could slot in and do a job for u if need be.

First things first, need to get the attitude right!

What's the bet Brian makes very few changes or ones that will leave us here arguing about them all week! :? Seriously there's no point to it. He will make his decisions and we have no say in it. We can't influence or change it. He will live and die by those decisions. At the moment he's on his death bed...

I really honestly dont see Smith changing alot about the 17 that took the field tonight. In fact I will go as far as to say that there will be 2 changes to the 17 for next week. I think Kativerata will struggle to hold down his spot and one of the forwards will go for Adam Peek

I would be shocked if Smith changed anything about the half/hookers.

Smith only changes and fools around with winning combinations. He is loathe to consider doing anything with a side that is getting belted!

Yeah because that is like admitting he f*cked up. The first round "experiment" failed emphatically and if he persists with this nonsense there will be an empty stadium welcoming the team in round 3 for our first home match

I expect Smith will drop Cannings and Grothe in retaliating for the massive loss. Wagon and Vella, in turn, will be signed for life.
