Fair enough Boxhead, but his past his best I reckon. The one thing he does, he couldn't do today from in front.

And not for one second am I blaming him for ending our season, just stating it the way I see it.

I ain't blaming just think the article was a little ironic. It was still the biggest choke I have seen since that Amco Cup miss in the 70's.

Sorry guys, my initial post was a bit rude because I was angry, edited it down so it ain't so stupid :)
I see your points, and I agree. I bet you anything this will benefit him with his goal-kicking and his playing; he will definitely strive to improve 100%, even though he really doesn't need to after the first half of the year's form. I think he has still got several years left in him, he just needs to work as hard as he usually does and work on his game.

Even Mick Cronin missed crucial goal kicks...

Like in that grand final. Not saying anything bad about Mick Cronin, but with the Luke Burt situation, every great goal-kicker has missed kicks they should have kicked at some point in their careers that have been crucial. Burt is still one of the best goal-kickers Rugby League has ever seen, and if he keeps up his high-scoring and great goal-kicking ways, he may even cement himself as one of the top three highest point-scorers ever in Rugby League (he is already in the top five).

I really feel for Burty. You could tell he really wanted to nail that one for the thousands of fans that were gesturing for those 2 points.

Luke is totally busted up about his miss, that shows the passion he has for the Eels. If it happened to a few other eels players they wouldn't nearly be so down.

Luke gives everything to the team. I love his passion.

Missed goals happen. As it was already mentioned, even the great, and I mean great Mick Cronin missed from pretty much in front when the pressure was on.

In fact, it wasn't from in front. It was 25 metres out from a bit of an angle.(After the game I stood on the spot, it was no gimme.) And in the background the clock was ticking down. I think he hurried it a bit. Somebody should have had a word in Luke's ear to just take his time and make sure of it. He rushed it. I think he was torn between getting it done quick and making sure of it.

It wasn't Luke's fault we lost. We had a few golden opportunities in the last few minutes. That's how the cookie crumbles people.

Remember, there's always next year.

I wish the goal he missed was from out wide for his sake. Feel devastated for the guy. Summed up our season though. Going to be a very very long off season.

Well mate no other player is in the team for the sole purpose of kicking goals.

If they WERE then I'm sure they would be just as down.

But because Burt is the golden child around here, he gets a pass mark for a crap season and a crap effort when we needed it most.

?????????

He missed a goal from 22m out adjacent to the posts....

Sure, you can say that the other 12 players should've had us ahead by 20 at that stage - but they got us to the stage where we shouldn't have lost and then the 1 guy who is in the squad for the sole purpose of kicking goals misses an absolute dead set sitter.

He missed 2 tougher kicks against the Knights a couple of months ago - but very makeable kicks - and lost us that game too (if he made just one of them we don't lose).

In reality our halves have been crap all year, but Burt has left 4 competition points on the field by failing in his job too. If he did his job, as rubbish as our halves have been, we're just 1 win away from second place.

Queue all the Burt sponsors now who will makes excuses for how he missed yesterday; how it was wet in Newcastle etc etc

Burt is still one of the best goal-kickers Rugby League has ever seen,

He's a 77% career kicker....

That is NOT one of the all-time great kickers. He gets a lot of chances which is why he scores a lot of points - but he's not one of the elite goal kickers.

Dude, oldmancraigy, nice to see you are showing your support for a club legend. :thumb
And in fact he is still one of the greatest goal-kickers the NRL has seen.
How many goals has he kicked from the sidelines this year, hmmm? He's rated by every expert in the game as one of the great goal-kickers; i.e. in the top 3 goal-kickers in Rugby League at the moment.

Also, he is not in the side just because of his goal-kicking.....if that were the case, he would have been booted for Krisnan Inu a long time ago (Inu is almost as good a goal-kicker). You are just making up sh*t that he is the 'golden boy' and is untouchable, that's bloody ridiculous and you know it, Burt is a club legend and just last week we were saying how great he was.

Also, a crap season? Are you bloody serious? He was the favourite to win an Origin winger spot early on in the year, he was playing and goal-kicking that well. Get your facts right before you say bull about a legend. He's been injured in the latter half of the season, but he has still been solid, and has still been one of the best goal-kickers this year by far; how many times a game he kicks 5 from 5 or 6 from 6 when half those goals are from the sidelines is just incredible. Stop spouting crap.

Also, it was NOT his fault in Newcastle, we have been over this several times; both those goals were extremely difficult, and he quite obviously got unlucky. Even Michael Gordon and Johnathon Thurston would have missed those goals, because guess what, they were in DRIVING RAIN and TORRID WIND, one was from the sideline, and one was from about 50 metres out. You can't blame him for missing those when most goal-kickers, including the top-tier ones, would have missed them.

Honestly, mate, he was in unbelievable form the first half of the season, and has been solid the second half only due to injury and the fact that he hasn't been getting any opportunities or ball because of the centres he has been paired with. You can't blame him for our lost season, are you serious? All of the tight games we have won have been because of his brilliant goal-kicking form, get over yourself mate.
If you blame anyone, blame the whole team for their inconsistency across the whole year.
That you are taking it out on a winger that gets virtually no ball at all, saying they are responsible for our lost season is one of the most foolish things I have ever heard. He has won us all those tight games in a sense because he has converted every goal needed to steal the win.

I respect you have your opinion, but FFS, if you are going to take pot shots on a club legend get your facts straight and give credit where credit is due.

Seriously the guy was in tears after that miss.... At least it meant something to him. You could argue that a few players have looked like they don't give a sh*t.... Smiling and laughing after a thumping.

Burty has given us more a lot more joy than sorrow with crucial kicks.... pull your head in oldmancraigy.

We wouldn't have even been in the position to draw even yesterday if it wasn't for Burt's earlier kicks.

Article in today's paper has stats that he's been the most accurate kicker in the NRL this season.

Poor guy, but our season ending wasn't his fault - he's kept us in and won matches for us this year, in both his kicking and his general play.

Worth much more than one third of Hayne's wage, especially with the crap superstar Jarryd dished up yesterday with our season on the line.

the sad thing is, on the tv, i knew he had missed it before he took it as it was 2mins to 6pm, therefore not enough time for golden point before the news.
