Not misplaced one iota,.to be a rl fan, you have to be an optimist.I've been a bleeding optimist for decades.

Melbourne to Brisbane was sarcasm mate FFS.In fact I had a email argument with FitzSsimons on that very score, when he stated the Storm would have to relocate to the CC.

The ARU are losing players at grassoots fans and money, how many time does it take .They don't have the money to invigorate their grassroots base.

We are dealing with pathways and you bring up the make up in the magnitude of money.
You are ignoring (probably the Brisbane effect)the lost pathways for players in Sydney and areas such as Nth Sydney with a population near 1 million ,taking in the CC,that went ,losing players, fans ,and a struggling junior league.
Joint ventures reduce pathways ,with one club instead of two.
In fact I attended a Giants game at the old Seagulls stadium between them and the Bulldogs eons ago, much to my wife's disgust whilst on holidays.

Factual shots are not cheap shots .The ARU was brought upon as the example,I begged to differ.

Burying my head in the sand LOL,I played ru for 6 years and rl for one.I care not for union now,I admire their International status ,that is all.

The NRL today has brought in a new rules setup for kids to stop the loss at grassroots level.Work is being done. That BTW costs money.

And assuming because the NRL has received X amount ,as a consequence it can do this ,and that and that again, without knowing the full details and costs involved, is also burying ones head in the sand.If it were that easy, we wouldn't be arguing the point.Eg How much does staffing the new Digital Section of the NRL cost?
We can all be armchair generals sitting on our backsides, but if we don't know the make up of our troops and the positioning of the opposition we may as well retreat.
Another post about yourself and your life...

How are you not getting it?

On the OP, the NRL could learn to not be afraid to expand its horizons and also to not let member clubs/associations run the show in the lunatic running the asylum style we have currently.

Dreaming for a moment, If rugby league had a "super" model for its competition, might it be an entirely global league involving England, North America, France, NZ and Australia? What are peoples thoughts no that style system. An example of how it could look just from existing sides

Atlantic conference- Leeds, Wigan, Hull, Warrington, Hull FC, Catalans, Toulouse, Toronto

Tasman Conference- Warriors, Newcastle, Melbourne, Souths, Easts, Manly, Cronulla, Illawarra

Australasian conference- North Qld, Gold coast, Brisbane, Canberra, Canterbury, Parramatta, Penrith, Wests tigers

Advantages would be integrating the english and french sides with the existing NRL sides, therefore lifting there quality level over time which benefits internationals between the 4 largest nations

Too taxing on the human body when travelling for 18-24h

Maybe when global transport times reduced to 2-4h

NRL has moved beyond ESL in standard

Prefer to see a world club series of ESL, French champions, NZ Cup winner and NSW, Qld Cup winners

Expansion has worked wonders for Union.Bill Pullover is a genius.Anyone who can hold a Gilbert(with apologies to Sherrin) gets a gig in the Blooper 18s.

I think the game will decline if it expanded to Perth. Look at the Western Farce as an example in the Stupor Rugby.

Yeh vfl was crazy to expand to Perth.

The West Coast Eagles are the most profitable football club in the country

Profit for the Eagles was up from $4 million in 2014, thanks to surging membership income and an increase in revenue from hosting functions and special events.

Your analogy sucks.

That was an entreched code with 100+ years of rusted on supporter base.

It would be like saying, well the Warriors have gone well they means AFL will go well in Auckland also.

Sorry I thought he was suggesting expanding sport into Perth was the problem, didn't realise you just have no faith in our game to grow And are you suggesting there was no rugbynunion or fans in Perth before the force started?

The biggest mistake Rugby League was to let people so called administrators from NSW run the game the have all the foresight of a gnat & the courage of the cowardly lion
Gould growls & they go to water. sacking the Pom was the stupidest thing they did & this from an administration who jump at the own shadow & are not overly bright

Not my point at all. I support expansion, but I'm also a realist, you can't pretend that the succes of the AFL in Perth can be a guage to the success of a NRL team.

Also are you seriously trying to claim that Union was as entreched in WA society as Aussie Rules was??

There're a few things that we should learn from Super Rugby, or rather the ARUs' current position.

That you shouldn't invest to heavily in the top tier of you're sport at the expense of the other tiers, that when you are suddenly flushed with cash to invest that in the future and not the present, and to never let outside interests with different goals directly influence the way you administer the sport in your region.

Very important lessons, two of which I'd say we haven't learnt yet, the third we are slowly changing.

Exactly expanding AFL to WA,was akin to expanding the premier rugby league comp to Queensland.
PR not looking at the real situation.

And yet you seem happy to go along with the original posters analogy that super 15's failure is reason fir nrl not to expand to perth? And yes union was here one hu dread years ago and still is. Not as popular as afl by any stretch but take a look at the forces first few years, big crowds and a profit every year. 10,000 people turned out to campaign for a team when they were deciding where to expand to.

The point of this thread is that expansion by itself is no indication or proof of success.

Super Rugby has over reached itself in Australia, and damaged the established markets along with the expansion markets...

There is a lesson to be learnt...
