Raider 69 are you sure of your facts?
"1. They link it to boogs cause he asked to collect the package "
Or was it, he asked for A package, and in fact a package had been sent to the club for him to sign?
"3. Dosnt sound like unfair dismisal to me, sounds like a clear cut break of code of conduct which is more than enough reason for contract termination "
Really, what part of the code of conduct was asking for a package breaching, is this a fact, or just your opinion?
My opinion on what I have read and heard, the fact it involved drugs makes it a criminal matter, and as such has been handed over to the police, you don't make public comments or take action until the police investigation concludes.
It is especially unwise to to make public comments if the police do not lay charges, and in a matter like this, a he did not recieve the package, even if he asked for the package, the fact that he didn't recieve it, means the police cannot establish if he knew the package contains drugs. Ask a police officer, the fact someone asks for a mailed package which contains an illegal substance in isolation is never enough to lay charges, as it provides no indication of the recipient knowing the contents.
For this reason I do not expect the police to lay charges, so now the situation is, the Raiders have stated he was sacked because of a drug laden package, but with no criminal case, no evidence that he knew there were drugs in the package, (conflicting reports as to if he asked for that package at all), how can they claim this is a breach of conduct.
I hope the club for their sake has either further evidence, or really good legal staff, because IMO this is looking quite bad, not only for unfair dismissal, but their defamation exposure could be huge if the police do not lay charges.
I cannot image this being handled worse, from a legal and PR point of view, and am hoping the club didn't just use this package as an excuse to get out of its contract liabilities, but I have to say, it is looking like that might be the case.
