Best punk rock album is by far Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First.

not a chance, empire strikes first is good but its nothing new for bad religion. still has graffin and gurewitz brilliant lyrics but the only thing that seperates it from the other BR albums is the occasional double kick drum pattern. best punk album of this year would go to Exhile in Oblivion by Strung Out or Siren song for the counter culture by Rise Against.

i must be the only person who dislikes that "American Idiot" song, sounds like every other song they've ever made.

Youre not the only one
It's an awful song, they shouldnt bother with that political crap either

They should stick to what they do best - making 90% bland, irritating music and churning out 1 decent song every few years...Good Riddance and now Boulevard of broken dreams

El Captain - I am pretty much in agreeance with your choices. Very well selected and it's good to see you made the choices by the actual music, not popularity or obscurity.

Missing one category - what's the best blues/roots album of the year?

Can't decide between G.Love's "The Hustle" and Xavier Rudd's "Solace" myself.

I liked it when it first came out but now im a little sick of it. The best songs on the album is Jesus of Surberbia, Boulavard of Broken dreams and Give me Novacain

A-Ha Shake Heartbreak Kings Of Leon. Next time they tour, the Stokes will be supporting them instead of vice versa...

The Truth About Love Dave McCormack & The Polariods. Like a murderer who kills people with a smile on his face & a sparkle in his eye...

They are a ordinary live but one of my Favourite albums this year ( was it this year?) was winning days by the Vines.
Animal Machine and Ride with me are great songs I reckon.
Eskimo Joe's a song is a city is exquisite albeit a bit short.

Hip hop-
hmmmm i dunno I don't get into it much but if push came to shove I would say Butterfingers - Breakfast at Fatboy's . would it be classed hip hop?

Blues and Roots-
Dan Kelly and the Alpha males - tabloid blues
Even though it sounds like Custard at times I will put it in this section based on the albums title.
Tim Rogers and the temperance union- spit Polish

Franz Fernidad was also a good one this year .

I can't look at so called punk music these days . All these yank bands look the same ...f**king black socks and shoes, makeup, tatts with a bass player jumping up and down on the spot.Singing love songs, it's tragic.
Someone should sit em down and play them Blackflag's "Annihalate this week" so they can get the jist of the whole concept.
So I can't even think of one.

Notable mentions-
Small goods
The City lights
Even - Free Kicks ( these guys should be stars)
