Obviously there are big flaws with the judicary. Always has been, always will be. The weighing of points for previous offenses, no matter how minor, is flawed, to the extent that players such as Ruben Wiki and Simon Woolford are getting lengthly suspensions for tackles that really merit no more than a penalty in the game.
As a referee, I see Webb's punch on Hoffman in this way:
1. It was intentional
2. It was not part of the actual play - Hoffman did not have the ball
3. Webb was not provoked by an illegal act by Hoffman - although Webb later claimed it was a grapple tackle, Hoffman was not penalised by the referee, Tim Mander.
In my opinion, Webb should have been sent off and referred straight to the judicary without charge. Minimum of 12 weeks.
Webb is a very, very, very lucky person not to have been suspended for longer - essentially, it was assault. If he did that off the football field, he would be looking at much more than six weeks! The fact he serves his suspension in trials, but gets to play anyway, albeit against substandard opposition, is laughable.
In any case, the Cowboys played much better once he got suspended! In my opinion, he is much more useful to the Cows as an interchange player. He is not the be-all and end-all of the Cowboys forwards now that Rauhihi is catching colds in England.
Melon, you're entitled to your opinion. ;-)
