Watching the tapes will be good for Todd.

He will see he has reliable guys in Farah and Mitch running the ship and that he can pick his moments.

He and Merrin (the 6 again ball swipe) were guilty of wanting to make the big play. Most Origin players make that mistake but with experience comes the knowledge that the big moments come to you if you are patient, opportunities present themselves without the need for a low percentage play.

Soward's main strength is his kicking game but I remember Pearce took the number 1 kicking role in last year's series. If Pearce got injured would Soward be a decent enough halfback for NSW?

There was a question posed on another thread a couple of weeks ago. The gist of it was that the poster was calling bullshit on the Whole 'Origin Player' concept.

This is my post:

Realise that this can happen to any rookie. Even Gillett had a quiet night for the Maroons. The experienced guys really do illustrate their worth at this level. They know that they possess the ability, and with their ability they bring composure.

He wasn't fantastic but good enough. If he does get into the game more in games 2 and 3, we're gonna be in with a big shout.

Carney played like a hobo but of course should still be picked for game 2,however he must start running the ball and not just throwing inside balls to Glenn Stewart or some other no hoper, run forrest run

Second Chance Todd getting another second chance?

He did it to himself - all this destiny bullsh*t that Dugan carried on with last year.

That said, NSW finally have a side that can stick together for a couple of years. Carney will be better getting the destiny dog off his back, and having a game under his belt. NSW have points in them - Jennings, Hayne and Farah proved that. Trouble is their points never came from the halves. Pearce and Carney ignite them in the second game, we'll win despite the dodgey referees.

I don't mind Carney but yeah he had problems last night.
And there was one moment that summed up what a few people are thinking.

Attempting that kick for goal.
He did it because Gallen asked him to. Gallen is supposedly his 'buddy' who's leading him down the straight & narrow. All he's doing to him is putting pressure on him to perform.
Yes there's pressure in Origin; but he's getting extra pressure from his own Captain. (no doubt if it works Gallen will be nominated for beatification)
Let the guy play his game; stop pressuring him 'cos its your only chance/last chance/ step up/be a man'.

Gallen and Carney. The Sharks duds, don't know how to win games at club or state level. Someone else should be captain.

He looked very, very nervous. He will kill it in game 2...

Edit - must be a tough gig to be expected to carry a club like the sharks then in your debut have everyone say if you play well we will finally win.

Thats a change from the "Pearce and Carney, the Roosters halves will direct NSW well" view you had yesterday.

That's the sort of stuff I mean. If they want to 'look after' their players, they wouldn't let stuff like that make it to the media.
It's too much cr@p to pile on ANY player.

Maloney should be there. Maloney has been better in so many facets this season and was good last year. It has been such a media push for Carney it has been ridiculous. Stick with Carney for game 2 but if he has another shocker then get Maloney in.

The funny thing is if Jamie Soward put in a performance like that most NSW fans will be calling for his head but it's Toddy Carney we need to give him another shot at redemption he is our best option blah blah. That was one of the most inept displays from a NSW half ever. Everyone keeps talking about ORIGIN plays look at the end of game 2 last year and you'll see a origin play.

it's because Carney is the most talented 6 in NSW. Not too complicated or ridiculous.

If Maloney plays like shit then what? We can't fall for the same trap again.
Carney has the most to offer out of all the halves available, I've said before I'd give him 2 series' to get something going.
