Cashy

After watching the last couple of cowgirls games it has come to my attention that aside from payten Cashmere sh*ts all over the other props we've got and we pay top dollar for. How much do you think NQLD would be paying for him... Less than 100,000 I would dare say. Look at the soft pillows we have on double and near triple that amount. Well done management once again.

Royce told me Cashmere was let go because he had bad lateral movement and was an ordinary defender. Coming from Royce that probably means Cahmere hits like Gilmeister

Cashy was set to re-join the Wests Tigers in 2007 on a small contract but received a late offer from the Cowboys for around 60-70k. The Wests Tigers couldn't/wouldn't match it. Instead they brought back Jason Moodie to play premier league  .

Not good enough for us, but good enough for the team who finished comfortably in 3rd spot.

Well done.

Certain "people" with foresight did put some wheels in motion to get Cashy back home for 2007, but at the end of the day it was down to "other people" who will just now look back in hindsight.

I still remember when he terrorised a full strength Bulldogs pack containing Roy Asotasi, Mark O`Meley, Willie Mason, Sonny Bill Williams and Andrew Ryan 2 seasons back when we flogged the Bulldogs on the way to winning the Premiership and that obviously still didn`t impress Tim, Royce and co ???

He made too many metres for Tom and Sizzler.
Heighington must be getting very nervous now given his stats this year

Don`t get too wrapped up in Heighno. He`s a very committed and courageous footballer who`s great to have in our side, but he`s very limited as far as skill is concerned and that along with his lack of size or pace will mean that he never plays rep football !!!

Behind Farah only for our player of the year. Disagree about his skill level. Has that jink that can get the first defender slowing rather than stopping him and his workrate is phenomenal. Great engine and always has a dig, unlike others. He is playing way better now than in 05. One of the few to hve improved since

He certainly was our best player this season behind Robbie Farah and he`s certainly a very good club footballer who has improved immensely since `2005, but i maintain he`s slow for a man of his limited size and for that reason he`ll never be picked to play rep football !!!

How long has it taken for him to have a few good games in a row........answer that.......you can't just keep every player because they MIGHT come good.....

Nah, you just keep spastics like Gibbs and let the likes of Cashmere go to the Cowboys, who are now running third.

True. The oft quoted defence- "you cannot keep them all", is sounding more hollow with every passing month. Looking at the strike rate, of those re-signed vs those released, whoever is making the calls should stay far, far away from racetracks and casinos. If WT had a second bite at Cashmere, and passed, that is a disgrace. To think Gibbs was not just re-signed, but upgraded, and Moodie hired also, while flicking Cashmere twice, does not inspire much confidence. Whatever else is below par, the most worrying aspect has been recruitment and retention. It was obvious in 2005 that some serious prioritizing was needed. WT needed more than anything else to secure it's 1,6,7 and 9, but especially the halves. It became fairly obvious that the halves would be heavily targeted. Before the GF, the wheels should have been in motion to shore up the side. All should have been on hold until the key players had been re-signed, or a suitable replacement identified. Instead, there was a fiesta of upgrades and contract extensions for too many, who were essentially expedient. Apparently there was still not enough $$$ to buy a decent halfback, in 2006. There may have been an element of arrogance,, as if WT didnt need Prince, or even a proper halfback, as long as Benji got the ball. Apparently props were not important either, as Cashmere was deemed not good enough for a cheap contract. Although blowing so much on the 05 purchases, there is some logic to the call, but saying no a 2nd time, for 07, and getting Moodie instead? And releasing Crockett? WT ended up with a side of 2nd rowers, Hookers and utilities, sprinkled with the odd centre, 5/8 or FB. Matt johns mentioned something during a game recently that WT eventually lost, after a typical uptempo start- that Sheens' side resembled "total football".- a brand of Dutch Soccer strategy that requires all players to be able to play every position. Is it possible that this may have something to do with the bizarre signings, musical chair positions, and lack of obvious key specialist players?

Err ...they just scored themselves another home semi - on the way to another GF, while our boys were dressing up and playing dwinkies.

Ray Cashmere wouldn`t exactly improve our side, but at the same time, he consistently does just as good a job as a few of the regular forwards in our top 17 that i`m quite certain are on a fair bit more money than what big Ray is on.
If we would of re-signed him (Cashmere) at the end of `2005 for the small contract that he was after and not pay overs for other players only similar in ability to him, it would of allowed us to spend more in other more importanty areas that we lack in, ie a genuine halfback.

Speaking of a halfback, there is one playing a fair amount of reggies at the moment, who has a fair amount of first grade experience and isn't too old yet. Just a name is all I'm tossing up here, I've no opinion either way on him as I've rarely seen him play.

He`s just another halve that is a decent ball runner, but has next to no ball skills or creativeness.
