No mention of what sort of $$$ he signed for, I hope to christ that we didn't pay overs for a guy that's near the end of his career with a dodgy shoulder.

If we paid a decent market value then it's a great signing.......we signed a genuine PROP!!!

top four?? haha.... so who do you reckon will finish below the tigers in 2010.. parra? storm? dragons? bulldogs? sea eagles?

I don't care who finishes below us where- just think that with Benji getting confident and having a full offseason and with cayless and lote we now have comp for places....this year we lost a heap of games due to a couple of points.

We missed top 8 by 1 point and top 4 by 5 points so I don't think it a big ask...

IMO eagles are no chance for top 4- Dogs will struggle and Parra have question marks over them....

Each year though, we have a young squad so we will only get better.

Lawrence, Ayshford, Ryan, Moltzen will all be a year better.

Benji was only a shadow of what he could be last year. 1 full year under his belt with no injuries and next year he'll come out firing.

Another key signings along with some decent depth signings in the offseason and I don't see the top 4 as anything out of the equation.

Is Tuqiri confirmed yet?

All you really lack now is a decent goalkicker. Unless Benji gets a LOT better, you're still going to be losing lots of games by 6 points or less.

I seem to remember Tuqiri being a pretty decent goalkicker for the Waratahs. Is that true, or have i got him confused with someone else?

Lote is not confirmed - but will be soon IMO-

Benji's kicking stats were similar to covells last year...so they weren't to bad- but another 10 -15% conv rate would be enough IMO

Tigers put recruit Cayless through the wringer

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,26210969-5012431,00.html

WESTS Tigers put Jason Cayless under the microscope physically before signing him to a two-year deal, chief executive Stephen Humphreys said yesterday.
"We offered him a deal only after receiving assurances from our own medical staff that his body could stand up to a return to the NRL," Humphreys said.
Cayless, 29, prematurely ended his contract with English Super League giants St Helens in mid-September after failing to recover from a shoulder injury.
The 194cm prop had also been plagued by a knee-ligament injury and, although he made 83 appearances for St Helens, he hadn't played since April.
He was a member of Saints' Challenge Cup-winning teams in 2006 and 2007 and was also a Super League grand final winner in 2006.
He won an NRL premiership ring as well with the Sydney Roosters in 2002.
A former Kiwi international, Cayless further strengthens the Tigers' forward pack. The club is still chasing Melbourne and current Kiwis prop Jeff Lima, but that now seems unlikely to happen.
"It is great to be back in Australia playing in the NRL competition with a club heading in the right direction such as the Wests Tigers," Cayless said in a statement yesterday.
"I can't wait to play with the likes of Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, Gareth Ellis and the boys under Tim Sheens."
Sheens, the Australia coach, said Cayless was a quality signing for the club.
"Jason will add a lot of depth and experience to the pack and will provide invaluable leadership to the strong crop of exciting young forwards coming through," he said.
Cayless will now line up once again against older brother Nathan, the Parramatta captain.
Jason had three years at the Eels before joining the Roosters in 2002.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers still remain hopeful of striking a deal with dual international Lote Tuqiri.
Tuqiri, 30, was sacked by the Australian Rugby Union in August and has offers rugby clubs in Europe and Japan.
But the Tigers believe they can convince him to return to the NRL.

.
New Zealand Test prop Jason Cayless has signed with Wests Tigers for two years after also being sounded out by the Brisbane Broncos.
Cayless, 29, has been contracted to St Helens in England for the past four years, but has played little football recently because of knee and shoulder injuries.
Tigers recruitment manager, Warren McDonnell said yesterday Cayless's knee and shoulder would never be 100 per cent again.
``But I don't think you would find any prop his age with knees and shoulders that were completely 100 per cent,'' McDonnell said. ``Our advice is that he will be right for the start of the 2010 season.''
Cullen said it had never reached the stage of making a decision to sign Cayless, based on medical grounds.
``At the end of the day we didn't get to that point, primarily because the Tigers were able to offer him a two-year deal and ours was for one year. We wish him well,'' Cullen said.
The Tigers also remain interested in Melbourne Storm's Kiwi Test prop Jeff Lima, who could be squeezed out of the NRL premiers' playing ranks by salary cap constraints.
``The ball is in Melbourne's court, but we would love to have Jeff back home,'' McDonnell said.
Lima made his NRL debut for the Tigers in 2004.

Benji's just about as good as most other kickers, it's just we score the most tries through the backs and out wide, thus making his kicks harder.

It's easy to have an 80% strike rate from in the middle.

Can't agree with you - all teams score tries out wide, Benji converts less than most. El-Masri in the team would have meant top 8 imo.

yes- he would covert from the sideline then miss 2 from 10 meters beside the posts....

just needs to be consistent
