You'll deadset pop a blood vessel......
He does need to prove himself in regards to on field play, there isn't a dispute with that. As players of first grade quality then every one of the seventeen picked should do the same. As for him not being able to be compared to most of the others in the team? It is exactly how he should be compared - if he isn't doing his job along with any of the other 16 he should be dropped. Just because he carries the c beside his name doesn't mean he should be making 60 tackles and 200 metres a game.....
Funnily enough the biggest criticism I have had of him in recent years has been his his captaincy, this has actually improved a little..... evidenced by the article in the SMH re: the NRL drinking policy, his willingness to talk more behind the posts and his sticking up for Hayne however misplaced it is.
How do you know? I'm talking about his personal influence and leadership towards his younger teammates on and off the field and only the coach and players would be aware of how valuable he is as an individual not just a front rower.
From an outside perspective no..... but Eels Dude makes a rather valid point as many of the younger players look up to him.....
Seems to be a tide of opinion against our captain atm.
So I ask.............
Who'd be against a decision if our club made a business judgement and let him go at the end of the year?
I'll start.
1. Not me.

I'd rather lose one Nathan at a time than both in the same year...
If Cayless gets an offer from elsewhere for 2010 and requests a release, then I'd let him go - provided that there is someone we can spend the money on to replace him.
The validity has to be put into perspective. It's a total package imo.
This guy's on $400 k's ffs.
Off the field maybe, he is a good influence on some of the kids.
But as a $400 000 a year investment?
Sorry, we can spend our money far better thank you.

Do you have physical proof as to what his annual salary is? You're underestimating how valuable a player like Cayless or a player with his leadership qualities can be to a side. He may not be the best prop forward in the competition but he has captained Parramatta for 9 years and captained the Kiwis on an off and on basis during that timespan also. That is an outstanding record. That alone shows how much coaches and other players respect him.
Having a player in your squad who is mature and can pull everyone else into line is invaluable. I'd rather a player and leader like Cayless then spending overs on a player who makes the hitups and metres but doesn't contribute elsewhere. That doesn't win you premierships. Team game rugby league is it not?
:lol: Since when did Pillow Caylo win us premierships?
I never said he has but what I am saying is that you need someone like him in your side if you ARE going to win one. Fool.
Oh shut up you filthy curly horned sheep.

Or if we are looking at young front rowers, what about "The Big Show" from the Broncos?

He plays footy now?
At 7 foot 2 and 440 lbs, I bet he'd be more of a liability, especially in terms of lateral defence.
