It been discussed a lot on this forum how the man of the match award for the grand final is a joke, with the selection usually just given to a default name, seemingly selected before the game even starts.

It seems harder to name the player who actually did deserve it, rather than didn't.

Which players shouldn't have won it? If not they, who did deserve it?

The oldfarts can answer the older players.

I remember watching the 2000 GF and thinking it should be Luke Phillips or Brad Thorn. Lockyer was a bit of a surprise.

I would have given it to Phillips to be honest. Take Phillips out of that roosters side they would have had atleast three more tries put on them, he kept them in the game, it was an awesome display and best defensive effort I have personally seen from a fullback period.

I would have given it to Nightingale.

But then again, you could name Hornby, Young, Fien, Smith as well & they all be more deserving.

Sisa Waqa is still my MOTM for the 2012 Grand Final. Made the whole Dogs backline look like chumps, and shut down everything they threw.

1991 - Surprised that it went to a player on the losing side, but if it had to, then Mal Meninga was by far the best Raider in the losing side. They probably should have given it to Royce Simmons or Greg Alexander though, really.

1991 is the one that still pisses me off. Clyde himself looked embarrassed to receive the award. He wasn't even Canberra's best on the day. It should have gone to Royce.

Haven't watched the game since September 1991 so I'll take your word for it lol
