It been discussed a lot on this forum how the man of the match award for the grand final is a joke, with the selection usually just given to a default name, seemingly selected before the game even starts.​

It seems harder to name the player who actually did deserve it, rather than didn't.​

Which players shouldn't have won it? If not they, who did deserve it? ​

I would have given it to Phillips to be honest. Take Phillips out of that roosters side they would have had atleast three more tries put on them, he kept them in the game, it was an awesome display and best defensive effort I have personally seen from a fullback period.

1991 - Surprised that it went to a player on the losing side, but if it had to, then Mal Meninga was by far the best Raider in the losing side. They probably should have given it to Royce Simmons or Greg Alexander though, really.
