Phillips played well but as a Broncos supporter and somebody who watched the game not that long ago (talking a few days ago) I believe the judges got it right.
Phillips came up with four try saving plays, an impressive number but if you judged each situation on their merit, honestly, only the tackle on Dell was impressive. Aside from being safe at the back, all he did was kick a goal from right infront.
Meanwhile Lockyer was just as safe, coming up with the best try saving play of the game on Hegarty in the opening stages, slicing the Roosters defence on kick returns, putting through pinpoint long distance kicks, setting up tries, linebreaks and was a little unlucky not to score one himself.
Thorn played well but in the end, Lockyer just played that little bit better.
Again, one-eyed Bronco supporter speaking here, but Phillips wouldn't have even made my Dally M style votes for the day. Lockyer, Thorn and Sailor were all better on the day.
Bonus comment - Bonetti's hit on Ikin is one of those moments that's been swept under the rug but if the Roosters had have snared victory, it would have been like Lamb on Hanley. Probably one of the worst kick challenges I've seen and it definitely rendered Ikin useless for the rest of the game.
