No they dont. Brisbane are the most profitable club in the comp, and the Cowboys are sustainable as well.

The Titans problems stem from one man doing to much to fast in an economic downturn and it coming back to bite him in the ass. You can bet they would also be a sustainable club if they hadn't of built the COE, and will become a sustainable club when they sort their problems out. The fact they have not one but 2 consortiums willing and ready to spend big on fixing the Titans, and turning it back into a sustaining club and their are 3 expansions clubs from QLD spruiking their sponsership deals and credentials as being a sustainable club, shows theyre is interest and more then enough resources to have 3 and more clubs in QLD.

Are you kidding me? The Cowboys were in a big financial hole only a few years ago. The Broncos have always been successful but the previous teams Giants, Seagulls, Crushers and Titans have not. So if history tells us anything it's that QLD struggle to sustain more than 2 teams at any time of their history.

History also says the Bears failed! The future should be based on developing the game if TV rights fixes the cash, QLD won't continue to prop up the pathetic job NSWRL has done by supplying players to clubs whose idea of development is recruitment if the Bears can't get a side to relocate they whether they should or shouldn't is irrelevant will miss out this time around.

History also shows us that the Bears were kicked out of the comp. It also shows us that as a whole both the code and the sport are in a better position now then it was back then, should we take that to mean that the Bears shouldnt be bought back because the code has evolved past them.

The cowboys are sustainable now. They fixed their position, and aren't going anywaway but a position on the NRL ladder. The Crushers, Giants, Seagulls were the 80's and 90's, a different time and a different era. It just shows you have nothing if your gonna use 15-20 year old evidence, from a chaotic time in RL history to explain something happening now. You dont mention that another QLD team, the Chargers were one of the most profitable clubs of it's time. The Crushers weren't even given enough time to make an impact, it baseless to use them as evidence.

The titans aren't unsustainable, one guy spent too much too soon, that doesnt make the club unsustainable it just makes that one guy an idiot.

And lastly all these unsustainable qld clubs that you say fail are from one city. WHat does the current or past sporting situations of the GC have anything to do with Ipswich, Brisbane or Central QLD. Suggesting that Qld can't support a team in Ipswich, or CQLD because one area isn't supposedly sustainable is the same as saying CC shouldnt be brought in because there is to many (unsustainable number of) Sydney teams.

The Bears never failed - their stadium which they place their money into was not built on time because of the weather and bad builders.

The game can sustain another NSW and QLD team as we have quality juniors to build a club with.

I'd be quiet about using existing clubs financial sustainability as some sort of indicator of the potential for another club in that state given the financial mire most of the NSW clubs are in! Penrith, Sharks, Manly to name but 3 obvious ones and if it hadn't been for Tinkler and Crowe, Sth's and Knights would be on the endangered list as well.

Good stuff but way off the mark.

If the Gold Coast with all it's investors, marketing potential and general population can't sustain a franchise for longer than 5 years each time, how much hope do you place on Ipswich? Also add that the Broncos have a stranglehold on Brisbane and another team would have a far harder time to gain traction then people here believe. There's a reason why the Bombers bid hasn't been recieved well.

What you perceive to potentially happen and what has actually happened are two different things. If the Chargers were successful they would still be here and the coast wouldn't have lost a team for those years. Truth is having lived for a long time around seqld, ive seem first hand what's happened with these failed franchises.

The Titans are also believed to be $35mil in the crapper, that's the worst financial position any team has been in any brand of the comp.

And we have Singo. What's your point mate? We're in a better financial position then many current franchises. Also I can comment all I want. I have an opinion just like you do.

WHat exactly makes the Titans unsustainable. If it's the fact that the COE put them into big debt, how is that showing the city can't sustain a side as opposed to one guy doing foolish things.

But whats the point, bring back the Bears, death to the Qld expansion teams aye?

Makes it very hard to like a bid when their supporters only death rid other bids.

And no one death rides the CCBears bid ffs? Have a read through this thread there's about 1/12 of replies which are nothing but absolute bullshit.

People seem to be ok with any other bid saying anything they want, they don't mind their fans talk up their bid and down on others (most bids you could fit their entire fan base in a 4 seat sedan) but as soon as its the Bears... Oh no it's foul play! Grow a set of balls will you? Fans and supporters from every bloody club give shit to every other club. Look at lol@souths movement? Bloody ridiculous, never realized how pretentious some people are on here.

To be honest you're both kind of putting people off with this negative campaigning.

Stick to the positives.

What do you think we've been doing for 2 and a half years?

To be honest I think it's rich that everyman and their dog can have an opinion on the state of the game, expansion, bids, etc but as soon as its Beowulf or myself it's instant taboo and a big no no because we obviously speak for every single Bears fan...

Maybe what people should be doing is getting off their arse and helping their teams out so they can get into a better financial position. But hey everyone is an expert when it comes to talking shit but few rarely get off their arse and do something about it...

Perhaps you don't speak for every single Bears fan but you are trying to promote the bid on here so when you deride the other bids or existing clubs it clouds the rest of what you say about the Bears' strengths.

Mind you I'm not anti-Bears at all. I understand completely what the strengths of the various bids are.

I'm just over some of the counter productive sniping going on of late that tends to derail threads. The comment applies equally to those attacking the other bids too.

If you're trying to promote a particular bid don't do it at the expense of trying to denigrate another. Just stick to your own positives otherwise the message just gets lost.

If QLD can't sustain more than 2 teams I don't see how NSW can sustain 11.

If the Bears miss out on the next expansion of the NRL do they pack up and go home or keep on trying?

Most people believe expansion will come in 2015. Anymore expansion of the NRL after that coul be years away.

Bears ready to climb aboard if Titans drown

Adrian Proszenko

April 1, 2012

THE Central Coast Bears claim they'll be ready to fill the breach should the financial crisis engulfing Gold Coast force them out of the NRL.
The future of the cash-strapped Titans, the team that pipped the Bears for a licence when the game last expanded, are in danger of becoming the fifth franchise to fold on the Gold Coast. While the full extent of their troubles is unclear, it's believed the club is at least $25 million in the red.

Bears boss Greg Florimo claimed his franchise could fill the void at short notice should the Titans suffer the same fate as the Giants, Seagulls, Gladiators and Chargers. ''We're desperate for this licence and to be included in the competition,'' Florimo said. ''If the Gold Coast were to fall over, and that's not our favourite scenario, we would jump at the chance. If the licence became available at short notice, we'll certainly do our very best to be ready. However, we would much prefer to get in on our merits and the business case we put forward to the NRL.''

Two consortiums have already expressed interest in taking over the Titans, although history and a difficult economic climate are against a team succeeding on the holiday strip. The Bears already have a home stadium in Bluetongue, a base on the central coast and a coach-in-waiting in David Fairleigh. However, the biggest hurdle would be assembling a competitive roster should an opportunity arise sooner than originally predicted.
''Obviously there would be some players on the market if the Gold Coast were to fall through,'' Florimo said. ''But it would mean we'd still field an understrength team, which would not be an ideal situation, as we want to be successful from day one.''

There are three franchises from Queensland alone battling it out with the Bears for entry into an expanded competition. Brisbane Bombers, Ipswich Jets and Central Queensland are all mounting their cases, but the bosses of their bids can't see the Australian Rugby League Commission giving up on the Gold Coast. Asked if he could envisage an opportunity to fill a void left by the Titans, Bombers general manager Craig Davison said: ''It's an easy answer - they will not fall over.

''Even if it did fall over, other people would fill the void, not me. We believe we have a very good bid for the Bombers in Brisbane.
''There are two bidders now looking to take over the Titans - there will be no shortage of takers, when [Michael] Searle falls over.''
Likewise, Jets chairman Steven Johnson couldn't foresee the game abandoning the Gold Coast. ''The Gold Coast market is a tough one but there's a large number of juniors up there that need to be looked after by the game or they will be lost,'' he said.

''If we give up the Gold Coast, we'd become a second-tier competition for the AFL. I can't see [the commission] making that decision.''
John Singleton, the multimillionaire ad guru who promised to underwrite the previous Bears bid, reiterated the need for a team on the central coast. ''The next time there is a geographic change to the teams, the central coast is going to look very good,'' Singleton said.
''But when that is, Christ knows. You would think [it will happen], but hopefully not done overnight, because you need time. But being the central coast, you wouldn't need long to get it up and running. You'd be on the field in a year and competitive in two or three. And forever.''

It is good, that other people are also starting to see the true colours of this bid, they are scum and will do anything, including knifing other teams to get in

Any bid team that claims it can get a first grade squad together from scratch before the 2013 season starts (more importantly, before the pre season starts) has rocks in their heads or are lying through their teeth. And if they think it will only take 2-3 years to become competitive they are optimistic at best. By rushing a team together they pretty much toss out any strategic planning they had for recruitment. Souths have barely been competitive since they got back in and most expansion clubs - such as Cows, Warriors, Titans - have seriously struggled to become competitive over time. Take the Cowboys GF appearance away and they have struggled, Warriors have been broke and struggled to make the finals most years, and the Titans woes are well documented.

It is imperative that any expansion team is given at least 12 and preferably 24 months to get a squad together. If the CC had known they were starting in 2013 they could have had a crack at Cronk, DCE, Stewart, Taylor, Mini, JWH, Scott, Beale, etc. Instead, if they get a late call up to enter the comp next year they might get a shot at Kris Keating and Evarn Tuimavave. Inviting the CC, or anyone else, into the 2013 comp with a reserve grade squad is a negative for rugby league.

And change your name to AlwaysStupid. Is it a bad thing that the bid is ready? Florimo even says, he would like the bid to win on its own merits. But you CHOOSE to read to sections which stimulate you.
