Damn we need to uncouple from this rabble called Illawarra.
SAINT GEORGE RED V

vs Illawarra what??
Sliding to oblivion.

As explained to you multiple times, Saints (by itself) doesn’t have a strong junior base, the Illawarra has it in abundance.

Without this, the Dragons WILL fade into oblivion.

Yep the South Coast has been the Dragon’s nursery for eons now , that’s not to say tat the St.George junior competitions never supplied their fair share . But now of course with the many different sports luring the same youngsters away from the game to soccer , Aussie rules and you name it this same base is shrinking but the Illawarra will always be there .

I would have thought, like in most cases in our capitalist world, that they invest to make money. Winning helps to makes money. Investors are not likely going to be influenced by trivialities such as what jumper a person wore when they played if that person isnt capable to coach their investment to win big time and make them more money and thus a better return on their investment. This talk on here about WIN conspiring to bring down the venture just to ensure an Illawarra man is the coach are not well informed and to be honest just plain divisive. At this point in time the very last thing we need is an internal war, just ask the Liberal Party how that goes....not good.

Let the dust settle first, see what the new CEO (who happened to wear the Red V all his career and never played for Illawarra) does when he actually does take over and then we can make a more informed opinion.
Yep, honestly - people who are worth hundreds of millions of dollars are basically just loyal to money. Some real estate board members attachment to Mary is probably not gonna be worth a bucket of warm spit to them ultimately. That doesn’t mean they’ll make a good decision though. Another thing about the capitalist world we live in is that people with that much money are insulated from any negative effects of their decisions, good, poor or indifferent, especially at the scale of of an nrl club. Just as it’s a mistake to assume they’ll be loyal to some Illawarra agenda to keep Mary come hell or high water, it’s equally a mistake to assume competence. Capital is loyal only to capital, and capital does not equal competence.

That’s just the point though.
Football clubs are not money making ventures, they all lose money every year.
Fine the NRL is increasing the club grants to $13 million next year, but that will just cover costs.
Last year one club, the Broncos, made a profit without the support of a Leagues club.

It’s going to take an awfully long time to recoup $10 million if your business doesn’t actually make any money.
Buying NRL clubs are “passion projects” for the likes of Rusty and the Penns, they are not genuine business ventures.
The NRL admits itself that only between 5 and 8 clubs will only just “break even” this year.
I imagine they feel that a moderately successful football team playing out of Wollongong will have positive knock kn effects for other business interests, principally WIN, but I’d assume they have multiple interests in the region they think will benefit.

Logic would seem to dictate that an astute businessman like Gordon would not retain a fuccwit like McGregor as his frontman.

Everything he says & does has failure written all over it.

He did incalculable, long term damage to the brand last weekend - and should've fallen on his sword before his now inevitable sacking.

LOL - I wonder who'll get to post the thread 'McGregor Sacked'?

Mate how many juniors play first grade for us?

Is it 2 or 3?

How many play for Roosters, Melbourne, Cronulla?

Not many.

The salary cap can be spent on buying players like Widdop, Hunt, Lafai, Graham, Mcinness, and all the others we have bought.

No need for juniors if they do not actually get chosen.

We have a few, maybe 3?

That's not the death knell.
It would be Nice to have 10 juniors, we used to, but not any more.

Seems Illawarra are just not producing stars.... or they go elsewhere.

Name our abundance of juniors in first grade

Perhaps Aitken and Dufty plus one more? I will check once at get home in the NRL book.

But it's not many.

We're obviously missing them through our pathways then. Friz was a corrimal cougar and Sims with Gerringong. Letting the wrong ones go possibly?

same way Roosters and Storms are such failures?

Junior nurseries are good for the game, not so much for clubs that have them
