Chad Townsend and Val Holmes

They used to play for the great Cronulla Sutherland sharks and were fortunate to be contributing members of a great historical team,.... before they were punted into obscurity.

Chad - serviceable halfback but not elite standard. Over-rated.

Holmes - brilliant but inconsistent.

2016 aside, as that whole squad will always hold a special place in Sharks history (some more than others). I’d say;

Chad - Made the most of his natural abilities and probably over achieved to be a steady Eddie at NRL level. Unfortunately has ideas above his station in terms of his abilities and like-ability.

Val - Elite talent, squandered some of his best development years by going to NFL, purely as a way to eventually land in NQ. Could have been one of the greatest wingers of all time, maybe even one of the greatest fullbacks of all time (though less likely) if he’d just stuck at NRL. Still elite on his day, but needs the rest of his team to be ‘on’ too.

They both stunk out the joint last night to my delight but like many, will forever be immortal members of our first regular season Trophy, so therefore get a leave pass into the pearly gates of Shark Heaven when the dust settles. Chad as a sporting identity, he's so obviously up himself whilst being blissfully unaware of his shortcomings at elite level (I say this with complete couch sitting confidence)
Val - Like Chimp just mentioned, he cruelled his GOAT potential by shitting on our club right when he was due to go to the next level, came back to the Cows with a WCW body and took 2 years to get back to his 2017 season fighting weight.

Sucks to be them, I feel great.

Chad…serviceable no7 who was kissed onthe dick by James Maloney and Ben Barba.

Val was, and still is, a great player. His attitude to the club and fans though was, and still is, one of Val first.

I dont give a fugg about giving them a leave pass.

they are both traitors and couldn’t even tie up Nicos budgie smugglers.

Chad right place right time, in GF he gave the Storm 7 tackle set that got them in front, was hooked against Raiders.
Val he couldn't been anything but went wrong way around it, it was the Sharks who gave him a chance, and he didn't repay the favour

I think Chad's legacy is an above average first grader and a premiership winner who won with his Local Club which is probably more than 95% of NRL players can claim.

Val will be known as an elite rep footy player.

If he had stayed on the wing his entire career and stayed in the NRL I think he could have gone down as one of the greatest wingers of all time.

I share the sentiments about both players, just wanted to add that Chad was in doubt for last nights game which would explain his ordinary performance.

And Val Holmes made the wrong career decision chancing it in gridiron, he should have gone backpacking instead if he really wanted a change of scenery.

Can't say I've seen the arrogance with Chad, I always thought he was pretty down to earth. But then again I haven't listened to any of his vlogs or videos so maybe I'm missing something there. Never an elite player but it was great that a local junior could win a comp, something that is pretty rare.

Val has disappointed me so much - I've followed him since his junior days and was very excited when he finally made it to NRL level. He was also my son's favourite player. But the way he exited the club was nothing short of disgraceful. I have to admit I still like watching him when he plays (against other teams) but I don't hold him in high regard anymore.
