Chad Townsend

He's way better than Maloney was in his last year. Maloney's attitude stunk and brought the team down - actually both halves' attitude stunk in 2012.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but imo Maloney wasn't as bad as he was made out to be in 2012. When the losses began the likes of Packer, Matulino, Locke started playing up, Johnson went to sleep which had Maloney and Martel visibly annoyed, our backline defence was horrendous with Fish, Omar and Ro. Lewis Brown clearly didn't give a crap either.

Maloney was always a penalty magnet and missed tackles, 2012 was no different. It just looked much worse when guys like SJ weren't even attempting tackles.

But Johnson did run the show for the Kiwis, and I could name you NRL games where he has. So it's time he matured and did so. Signing another dominant half (which isn't happening any time soon) would only inhibit him from continuing to do so more consistently.

I guess all of us who rate Townsend and the job he's doing will have to agree to disagree with you.

For me, he's doing a similar job to what Thomas was doing in 2013 when he was one of our most consistent. Nothing too flashy, doesn't overplay his hand, makes his tackles and pops up when he has to. Not his fault the guy in the No.7 isn't performing.

I reckon if SJ was performing, you'd not have a care in the world about how Townsend was going. But because he isn't, you want Chad to be Maloney circa 2011 to make up for it.
And I'm happy to agree to disagree with everyone, however it appears it will all be moot pretty soon anyway as Townsend could be leaving.

As for the second bold, we may as well just play another backrower at 6 if that's all we want from them.

You gringe easy Matua. You must be having kittens each time SJ gets the ball.
The Chad gets his hands on the ball and players run off him. He is trying hard and improving each game.
He's going OK.
I'm mostly swearing at the screen when Johnson has the ball these days!

What praise are you referring to? I can't remember seeing anything too OTT. He's a mid to lower range half but is doing a job for us so good on him.
He's getting praise on the various Foxtel league shows and he's got a bit on this thread suggesting he's more than a mid to lower range half.

In 2012 Maloney always fronted up to play, he hardly missed a game and would often rush himself back from injury when he did.

Yeah to me it was always a bit of a Warriors myth, kinda like the "Inu was rubbish in our jersey" one.

This is a very fair point. I think my memory of it was 'tainted' or whatever by Iro dropping him, from memory being reasonably scathing, and someone from the Herald also did so (after he'd left and knew he wouldn't have to front up to Maloney at pressers, like all p-weak journos do)

But honestly, they had a coach who from all reports created the culture in which no one but the most disciplined performer would've got out of 2012 with any credit.

Wasn't a bad fit for Tohu Harris in last year's ANZAC Test, maybe you're onto something. But honestly, if we want another 2011 Maloney - where's that coming from? And I say that with no slight on you, we sure as hell aren't producing halves through our system. And unless they're a Townsend, or a Maloney who wasn't getting game time before hand, they're not coming here.

So maybe it's Dean Bell you're mad at.

The Chad has saved us this year, really think he has stood up around an otherwise weak spine. If he was playing like he was most of the time before this year with the way Johnson is then we would be getting run over every week. Instead of just every other week.

Will be tricky to keep him due to family issues though, wonder if Tui will be ready next year or if we will look at moving another person into the halves with SJ instead. Wish we had nabbed Foran.

Tui looks ready for any position so far.

Worst news I have seen this year.
Johnson & Lolohea together will be a disaster.

1st time i've heard somebody talk sense for a while. Go and chase a decent #6. It is such a crucial position and the Tui and SJ combo won't work.

If Le Chad is leaving then we have to find another half from somewhere regardless because our depth will be a little shot.

I doubt we're going to get another established half so it's really a case of finding someone who ticks the boxes and then let him, Api, Tui fight it out over the off season.

At this rate we'll have 3/4 of a new spine next year. Friend will retire, ST and CT going. It's now or never for this era of the Warriors.

I really hope he sees out the year at the very least.
Perhaps the owners can find the best doctors, and bring the poor soul over.

Not sure that fits the cap, would make an exemption for that sort of thing myself.

Still needs to get a better hair cut.

Most of the successful teams keeps their spine together and build the team around them. How many hearing a row have we had the same 9,7,6,1?
