I thought a HKR player should have been sin-binned (approx 65th minute) when Catalans were on a roll and they were deliberately giving away all the penalties. Still, like you say, I don't think they deserved to win though. They're pretty much the NZ Warriors of Super League in some ways, flashes of brilliance, followed by a brainsnap that just erases all the great work they've done.

They are eerily similar in their ways

The semi final ground selection year on year irks me. These two games should be at major ground instead of the usual Doncaster etc... who gets excited about going to doncaster?! So its no wonder they get less than capacity at the semis on occasions. The likes of anfield, bolton, elland road, brammal lane should be uaed if the football clubs approve and imo the semi finals would be a much more attractive sale to fans.

I disagree, I'd rather a full-house, in a (neutral) Rugby League town, than a one-third full soccer stadium that costs a fortune to rent. They'll make a loss on it rather than a profit. Gotta be smart about these things. The GF is the big one, semi-finals needs to be as accessible as possible for the fans.

How many times has Donny hosted a CC semi? I can only think of Hull v Wakefield in 2008.

I can remember a Cas v leeds semi there as well a few years ago and maybe one other.

What is the over riding reason for the less than great semi final crowds of recent years? Is it stadia, timing, pricing or soemthing else driving it?

I think the advent of SL eroded the supporters' love affair with the CC. No cup ties get the type of attendances we saw in the past. Even the final rarely sells out.

Great effort by Leigh, but just wasn't good enough in the end.

So we now have: Hull KR, Wire and Leeds in the Semis. Saints/Widnes tomorrow.

I think that Leigh have shown enough that they should be able to get promoted. It will still be a tough job but they should be able to beat one or two of the worst Super League sides in four attempts.

That kevin penny try was ridiculous...theres 5 or 6 players in super league that do this practically every week...way more than it happens in the NRL

Controversial but I think SL clubs get the ball to the edges more than NRL clubs do, hence it creates more opportunities for wingers to be acrobatic

Semi-final matches are...
Leeds vs St Helens
Warrington vs Hull KR

I'd make it a double-header at Huddersfield. But that's not gonna happen, since they are definitely being played on separate days. So, in that case I'd have Leeds/Saints at Huddersfield and Wire/Hull KR at Halifax.

Why Halifax?
Basically, I use two criteria:

1) Capacity, Shay holds 14,000, which in my opinion is perfect. It's not huge, so it won't look empty and there's little chance any fan who wants to go, will miss out on a ticket.
2) Location, it's pretty much bang in the middle of the two teams.

Where would you guys play it?

Thats 2 tough games to locate without pissing off somebody. Wire and rovers at doncaster maybe? Leeds v saints makes sense at huddersfield i think

Both matches at Huddersfield, or Warrington-HKR at Bradford or Leeds if they don't want to book Huddersfield twice. The 2003 semis were both held at Huddersfield on consecutive days.
