Just look at Heighington's game when he takes a hit up one out, he'll run back in and at the marker every time and he will drop to his knees immediately.
This worked magnificently in 2005, now it just wastes a tackle
It's delusional not to see that a lot of key aspects of what worked in 2005 are still being employed today.
Teams aren't after quick play the balls all the time now. Some try and prolong the wrestle in the tackle and on the ground, as this also wears out defenders more and brings about more chances of earning your side a penalty.
The Storm's wrestling tactics were introduced to try and counter this wrestle. Most teams do this stuff now, as much as they won't admit it. Tigers haven't caught on.
The team with slowest play the balls in the competition today is also the team that makes the most metres on average every week. Cronulla.
They have shown that flair and razzle dazzle are nowhere near as important as simple footy, making metres, getting good field position and getting repeat sets.
Carney and Robson are quite poor kickers, more often than not their kicks go straight to the fullback or wingers, but the forwards big metres and wrestle in tackles and on the ground hides this glaring issue superbly.
