ABC in Melbourne. The AFL was all about the eagles they will have pereched at the MCG to scare off the seagulls.

It's sad to hear Gallop talk like that. For all the times he mentions how he wants the league run like the NFL, he does the opposite. The NFL would NEVER let themselves be treated in such a way because they know they're the meal ticket for these networks.

Gallop should have the NRL in the same position, but he continues to look like a wet newspaper when anyone brings it up.

The same thing has been happening since he first got the job.

You get people on here that rightly bag him, but as soon as they hear him come out with a few bold pro-league statements, he's the king all of a sudden.

But Dave never let's us down as he again proved in that Triple M interview.

We need somebody fresh trying to sell our great code to the media.

Not some bloke who has no passion at all for the game or an understanding from a fan's perspective.

I cringed when I heard him talk up Ch 9 Melb in front of Eddie. Weak as water.

During this interview DG defends 9 in melb, saying they are doing a terrific job.

He understands that they don't want to get smashed in the ratings.

John Grant: Where are you?

Ask yourself; would Andrew Demetriou stand back and cop similar treatment from his broadcast partners re: Swabs Lions Suns and Giants despite getting belted in the ratings?

Just goes to show how spineless our administration is compared to other codes.

I cannot believe the CEO of a sport is actively defending a tv station who is refusing to show his sport in an essential market for the growth of his game. Seriously, is there another CEO anywhere in the world (sport or business) who would be so braindead?

I really cannot believe it.

Why are we stuck with this moron in charge of the game?

per head of population we are on par with Melbourne, and you have had an NRL team for over a decade!

Sorry PR it wasn't a shot at Perth viewers. I should have worded it better.

It was a shot a macnaz and the way he was reading the figures.

The way he was reading it meant that Perth had 10k viewers and the 6k viewers came from somewhere else.

It defies logic.

Yet his News Limited cheersquad are still out in force. As soon as DG gets criticised, out come his protectors.

I was waiting for one of them to defend him following that Triple M interview in Melbourne the other day and Andrew Webster duly stepped up to the plate.

Well done Webby!

Next NRL TV rights contract absolutely must include live broadcast of all away games locally. If not on the main channel then on Go or Gem at least.

Message to David Gallop: please take note of these TV ratings into Melbourne next time you publicly criticise rugby league being shown on free-to-air into that city.

That 274k figure in Melbourne for the Storm v Warriors game was enough to put us in front of the AFL semi that day on a 5 city metro basis.

It also easily won its timeslot in Melbourne last night (which is the main point I'm trying to make in the title to this thread) - RL won the ratings in its timeslot in Melb!!!

And more than doubled the highest rating Swans' TV figure recorded in Sydney this year (136k - which was for a semi as well).

This is a team that gets a quarter of the publicity in their home market than the Swans receive in their home market.

We need a CEO who can state our case to the TV networks, not state the case of the TV networks.
