I have heard several people mention that combined Pacific Islanders team as well, and whilst it would be good for the game, I doubt they would ever agree to it.

They play for their own respective nations, I doubt they would sacrifice their individuality and the honour and joy from playing for their country to play in a combined team with their natural rivals.

It is not a combined team it is a team representing a region ;-)

Put big $$$$$$$ in front of their noses and they will all happily be married to each other and to the cauldron as modern gladiators in a battle to the death SOO standard. It will put bums on seats particularly if these contests are brutal, punishing, intense and skillful.

I'm still doubting it's chances of happening. We all know that there is quite a bit of friendly rivalry between Pacific Islander nations, e.g. the fierce rivalry between Tonga and Samoa. I just don't think they would ever play in such a team.
I believe representing your country is something they all want to do, not playing alongside the people they would want to be playing against.

Could you imagine Australia and New Zealand Rugby League players all being put into the one team to represent the "region"? It's certainly a more palpable notion than the Pacific Islanders team, and whilst they would be unstoppable, all the players would feel that - you know - they really aren't representing their countries, if you know what I mean?

Again, I'm not opposed to it, but I don't think it will happen.

Mate K.Hunt spent his first 16 years in NZ and played for australia. Fien spent his first 25ish years in australia and played for NZ because of his great grandma. --> They would play together, its called the All Stars team (played against Aboriginal team earlier this year if you remember).

Awen Guttenbeil, Fui and Tuiaki are tongan and played for NZ,

Ali Lauitiiti, Kylie Leuluai, Francis Meli, Frank Puletua, Tony Puletua, David Solomona, Willie Talau, Matt Utai and Nigel Vagana all Somoan and played for NZ.

$$ talks, if they can offer good match payment they will play because NZ is generally made up of NZ and Pasific Island players anyway.

I always kinda assumed NZ was just the sole representative nation for all PI nations in league, thus the reason why a bunch of Tongans, Fijians and Somoans are a part of the ranks.

You can kill this rumour. Highly unlikely he'll leave North Queensland. Broncos would be the only club offering enough $$ to interest Willie, but he's not going anywhere.

thanks for attacking me Pete, apparently I'm the only one that should be able to accept being called a tool which is how this started.

thanks again MATE!

It actually started when you decided to send me that PM.

But let's move past it.

So now Tonga isn't coming, this is too much of a circus.
