Charity Shield 2023 vs Souths

Souths have the wrestle down pat, they're very good at slowing their opposition down as we saw yesterday.
We on the other hand are hopeless at the wrestle and dominating the ruck, I had hoped it would improve this year but no signs yet. We gave up the least amount of ruck infringements of any team last year, we give our opposition nice quick play the balls and struggle to fight hard enough for our own. BMM, Hunt, Kerr and Woods and maybe Burns played them fast but no-one else.
Need to get 3 or 4 in the tackle and hit the slo-mo.
I'm my view we need 2 props that can consistently make the advantage line. You need at the very least 3 of your forwards running 100m plus a game just to be competitive. The forwards must run lower and when tackled try to fall on their stomachs and not get wrestled onto their backs get up play the ball quickly. Unfortunately for us we haven't had those players in the last 10 yrs.

Ben Woolfe really needs to get our diabolical defence fixed. Fix the defence and the arrack will improve with game time. We will still be middle of the road but not the rabble of yesterday.

Some of the poor positioning in defence and the lack of cohesion was dreadful.

I really want Burns to succeed but his rushing forward and right to open up for Walker's second try was stupid. If he maintains the line there is no gap. That sort of mistake had to be dealt with.

The crowd attendance in Mudgee? Grandstand and covered areas were full.
Hot day to be on the hill, I noticed the green patches. I suspect some people stayed in the pub.
Still had 8,700. Capacity is about 10,000.
Sorry I posted on the wrong thread as I meant the World Club Challenge but saw highlights of The Charity Shield and thought it was a good crowd.

If Sloan and Mitchell are mates then surely that stuff can be saved for the sheds or somewhere private instead of moments after fulltime.
As a fan I found it just as humiliating as the loss. I get emotions can spill over in a final, debut, milestone or farewell, but not in a preseason trial.
I really hope he can bounce back from it though.

Yesterday looked like it was 13 strangers on the field playing together for this first time. There was no communication between the players, very little talking, looking at each other. Defensive structures were all over the place and they did look no better than a NSW Cup team. Now that's worrying

Sorry your feelings were hurt. Would you like to talk to someone about it?

I found it refreshing to see a player actually care about it. Can’t remember the last time I saw a dragons player look like they were upset about a loss.

Apparently he lost his Nan the day before the game, and she was his everything growing up. How he even laced on a boot after something like that shows how much he wants it. Being young and probably the first real loss of someone so close you can absolutely understand the emotion shown.

Jesus f**k that's terrible. How he even got onto the field in his state speaks volumes about his character.
Condolences to the Sloan family.

I can't find any confirmation of this story. I think it's probably a false rumour.
I think he was disappointed in his performance and that of the team - and he was correct on both counts.
I don't blame him. In fact, I applaud him. Some of his much more experienced teammates were busy having a great laugh with the guys who just flogged them! At least Mitchell understood how Sloan was feeling.
I've seen this a few times now - our players thinking it's cool to have a casual chat and a giggle immediately after an embarrassing loss and I, for one, really dislike it. It would be a damn good thing if more of them were under intense pressure and feeling miserable after a performance like that!

Whilst true and supporter’s hate it but 3 points
1. It was a trial so why not chat to opposition
2. It happens in NRL season games except finals or origins
3. All teams do it
