TERRY SIGNS

Posted on: Tue 13 May 2014
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Terry has signed a one-year extension to his contract.

The most successful captain in the club's history and our fourth highest appearance maker, the 2014/15 season will be Terry's 17th in the first team. He made his debut in October 1998 as a 17-year-old having joined the club as a youth trainee at the age of 14.

Speaking after completing his new deal, Terry said: 'I'm delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea taking me into my 20th year with the club.

'I'd like to thank the fans and club for their continued support, and the Manager who was instrumental for me the last season.'

Chief Executive Ron Gourlay added: 'We are very pleased John, who is an undoubted Chelsea legend, will continue to lead the team next season, as he has done for so many years with unrivalled achievement.

'Both Chelsea FC and John have been clear throughout that we wanted his outstanding career at the club to continue, and it is important the matter has been concluded so soon after the end of the season, allowing us to look forward to and plan for 2014/15.'

The 33-year-old has played 621 games for Chelsea, 26 of them as a substitute, and he has scored 57 goals, comfortably the most by a defender in our history. He has been captain on 490 occasions.

The trophies he has won with Chelsea are the Champions League 2012, the Premier League 2005, 2006 and 2010, the Europa League 2013, the FA Cup 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012, the League Cup 2005 and 2007 and the Community Shield 2005 and 2009.

He has been Chelsea Player of the Year on two occasions, 2001 and 2006, and other individual accolades include being named PFA Player of the Year in 2005, UEFA's most valuable defender in 2005, 2008 and 2009 and five selections in the FIFA/FIFPro World Team of the Year.

Luiz off to PSG for an obscene fee. Sad to see him go, a very likeable guy but at £50m you would be stupid not to. Good luck, David.

My favorite chelsea player song now rendered redundant.

Yep, he was one of my favourites too. He did well in that DM slot, although I won't miss the free kicks into the scond tier of the grandstand

Great guy, great song, but you don't turn down that sort of money

Happy for schwartzer, although he probs won't play much he's still getting contracts at that level and a chance to stay in the PL with CL possibilities.

He has certainly stood out in the WC.

PSG must have spotted something Jose didn't..
