It is a 6 year deal with a 2 year option in DCEs favour, there is plenty of time for this to go bad for Manly, not saying it will but it is a fairly large risk. When has a 5 year contract(or longer if there are any?) ever worked out in the clubs favour?

We got 3 years into the Campese one and he'd done 2 ACL's and was a husk of a man.
Its VERY risky

Definitely a risk, but a risk they needed to take. A halves pairing of Chris Sandow and Tom Symonds necessitated this move by Manly.

I think we overpaid, but oh well, depends on the third party deals too.

Ultimately think he is worth it, despite the people bagging him, he is a super star player.

no surprise to see mel malingerer try to justify DCE action's, he's targetted and backed mercenaries his whole origin coaching career

Don't waste your breath with these morons, they are simply jealous and hate to see anything good happen to Manly.

Matai's acting is wearing thin and Killer can't still be hated so Manly's isolationist culture needed a boost, this could be the catalyst for renewing 'f**k youse all' . . . well worth the money if it works

Pretty sure the term "youse" grates on the ears of most Manly fans (and educated people in general).

Oh I agree just pointing out there is some risk involved.

Love the use of your understatement.

DCE has taken Manly to the cleaners and exposed them to a massive risk while securing his own paycheck despite the possibility of mediocrity and less money to buy or retain other players.

Manly have straight up gambled.

A bit understated perhaps but I'd already said it all a couple comments previously.

Bleh, the club was left with little choice after they foolishly backed Keiran Foreskin. If that odious little toad had come clean last year instead of waiting for DCE to choose so he could look like the good guy of the piece (Foran thought Evans would stay so he could basically blame him for getting pushed out of the club) they could have put all of their initial efforts into DCE. Instead this happened and they may yave got hosed.

Club is fairly at fault but an expensive DCE is better than what else was on offer.

For now - will you sing that tune in 8 season's time?

Who knows?

Same could be said of any contract. Foran might actually be completely busted right now.

Don't understand why people are saying he hasn't been playing that well recently, he has been our best player this year bar Jake Turbo.

Titan's forced Manly into this. If they hadn't signed Elgey, I think Manly may have taken the cheaper option. I think the Titan's are better off with Elgey anyway. Manly are probably better off with DCE.

While I'm not really a fan of the contract, I understand the need. I'd have written a 80% goal kicking KPI into that contract myself. For that dough, he needs to be goal kicker, half and captain. Plus he needs to whore himself for any marketing Manly requires. He should retire with RSI on the wrist from signing supporter gear for all the local kiddies too.

I'd say it is closer to $10m for 8 seasons. I'd imagine he is on a proportion deal too. Hopefully up or down...

He is a good player and he is worth $1.25m per season. For that long though? If he retires due to injury, then that ends the contract for salary cap purposes I would imagine? It would be interesting to see what they have arranged there.

Before the win in Melbourne, fair to say he'd been very very quiet? Fair that his recent form has been good, however. Probably because he'd made his mind up..

Oh shit wait no that was in the last 48 hours

I think manly did the best thing they can do IMO. Risky sure but better than rotating shit halfbacks in for the next decade. The raiders gambled with campo and it failed but DCE has a much better form history. Injuries will be the concern and motivation to an extent I guess.
