I just think it shows how incompetent the board where in appointing him in the first place and it was only 3 months ago there where rumours of an extension.

To sack an experienced coach for an untried rookie that didn't even have lower grade experience was a political appointment and they should be held accountable for it.

While I hope some good comes from it, my first reaction is it is another political appointment to take the wind out of the sails of those wanting SK sacked right now.

The Telegraph has just confirmed it

Eels appoint Anderson to new coaching role in bid to help struggling Kearney

Chris Anderson will today start his new role as coaching director at Parramatta after agreeing to a short-term deal with the club last night.

Anderson's appointment ends the long and checkered search for a senior figure to guide to head coach Stephen Kearney, who has won just nine games since taking control last year.

The Eels board had previously offered to hire Jason Taylor or Graham Lowe as mentors, but Kearney declined both suggestions.

This week, however, Kearney nominated Anderson - whom he won a premiership with in Melbourne 13 years ago - as his preferred option.

The former Australian Test coach agreed to come on board for the remainder of this season, and will travel to Parramatta Stadium two or three times a week.

The Eels board is also keen on retaining the combination for 2013, provided it lifts the team's fortunes.

Price, Anderson join Parramatta coaching staff

The man affectionately known as 'Mr Perpetual Motion' has been offered a chance to come aboard to help the Eels, as will former Australian Test coach Chris Anderson. The two-time premiership-winning mentor has agreed to join the club as coaching director on a short-term deal, which could be extended if his appointment helps the club climb up the NRL ladder.

Price will sign up on a consultancy role to help mentor the forwards as the club beefs up its brains trust. It's hoped the changes will provide a boost ahead of tomorrow's home clash with Newcastle.

The Sun-Herald revealed recently that Parramatta powerbrokers had offered Kearney the opportunity to work with Jason Taylor or Graham Lowe, options the Kiwi mentor knocked back. However, there was a need to bolster the coaching staff at the Eels following the departure of assistant Matt Cameron to Penrith and Kearney opted for Anderson.

The pair are close from their time in Melbourne, where they won a premiership 13 years ago. Anderson, a two-time premiership-winning coach, hasn't been involved in the NRL since parting ways with the Roosters midway through the 2007 season. Anderson's latest involvement in the game has been a role alongside Max Krilich at the NSW Origin Legends organisation.

He failed at the roosters but before that he was successful with the sharks, storm, dogs and aust. What is a reputation previous suggestions to help out included Taylor whose reputation is not the best after his southd gig and posters have mentioned Brian smith and his reputation is seen as a choker.

Is he the best option ? No but the best options are coaching. And any option not coaching such Stuart would not take this type of role . While others like graham Murray well I can't see how he is any better or worse than Anderson .
he took the sharks from top 4 to second last. then roosters to 16 losses in a row before leaving (and then fittler somehow finishing with a .750 record for the rest of the year). dunno how successful that is.

This must surely be short term, SK has obviously chosen Ando.

Umm, not sure he will assist in getting players to sign, would love to know how deep SKs contract is, he appears to have the say in a lot of things.

It's actually classic performance management. This is where Bentley's expertise will come in. Before you sack someone you have to give them every opportunity to improve and provide assistance. This is what we are doing. Spend some time and money now and minimise the payout in the end if there is no improvement and Kearney is dismissed.

Good move... through Anderson and Pricey's signings things are on the up for the club, and the Board has secured their re-election hopes.

:sarcasm: ...

With all the premature talk of an extension that went on early in SK's term, I suspect a three year extension might already have been a "done deal"? And they've just waiting for the "right time" to announce it, but unfortunately a string of wins on the trot have evaded us under SK's guidance.

FMD - When will people let the DA sacking go??? It was two seasons ago - time to move on with life......

People make out like it was a crisis akin to the Red Sox letting Babe Ruth go......seriously.....Let it go!

People can't because they can see that the decision to appoint Kearney has come back to bite them on the arse.

But it doesn't sound like very good time management. If it fails (which, based on the most recent performances of Anderson, is a very high possibility) we then end the year with the proposition of finding a new FG coach and in all probability writing off next year because the new coach won't have the players he wants or the time to put structures and strategies in place.

This season is a write-off now so it seems like the perfect time to be rolling the dice (if we are indeed going to roll them at all lin the next few years). If this is just a performance management or strategy decision then IMHO it's a badly thought out one. Move the chess game a few moves forward and the only possible positive outcome is very very unlikely (that Anderson will somehow turn Kearney's fortunes around and things will magically start to 'click').

To me this feels like clutching at straws and delaying the inevitable to try to save face.

It is a foolish move to have Anderson at the club. They is one breath short of another heart attack. What happens when his health fails him again? The circus then continues....

As did Red Sox letting the Babe go (bit them on the ass) - point being - its done. Nothing can be done about it. So instead of pissing and moaning about the decision - move on.

Its not like its the first mistake the club has made, and certainly won't be the last....nor is it the first & last mistake that will be made in any organisation, sporting or otherwise.

Some things cannot be helped, and focusing on what has been done in the past will not acheive anything...

my lasting memory of Chris Andersen is the 74-4 smashing of cronulla where he refused to put someone at fullback after peachy got sent, so all we had to do was get past the first line and we were in

he's an ideas man chris andersen
