Physically there is nothing wrong with this lad, he is as quick as ever, but he is in a bad head space, He
looks unhappy and will not commit himself to ball or defense. You can see it in defense he just plants his feet and hopes for the best. He looks like he needs some time out of the game. He is in a really vicious cycle at the moment, his negativity gets compounded with every mistake he makes would be a good thing to give him a spell away from footy for the rest of the season IMO. At 25 he still has a lot to give as a centre, he ain't cut out for the pack! I expect there'll be some improvement with improved service from inside him. I hope so anyway seems like a genuine bloke. He needs to relax!

He has NOTHING to give as a centre , and as far as head space my mind would be elsewhere knowing im totally shit and keep getting paid .. f**k of with the exuses he isnt going to get better ,the apologists have been dreaming this crap for years... he has lost the ONLY TWO parts of his game... Speed and Benji putting him in holes!! One thing he did keep after losing them two things was another coach with zero nads to f**k him of to state cup or Enfield feds.

If he is playing hurt it would be bad PR for the Tigers do cut him loose considering the situations with Simon Dwyer and TNT (could possibly add Fulton & Anasta to the list).

He doesnt have to be cut loose , state cup is there for players not up to NRL standard.

He isn't as quick as ever. I'll be generous and say over 100m he might be 2-3 seconds slower than a few years ago, thats quite a lot for a centre.

He was never blistering fast, like Koroibete, but he was very fast off the mark. For a while there, he was undoubtedly the fastest centre in the game off 3-6 steps. He used to get through half gaps off the back of that initial speed burst.

It's almost as if his legs are so bloody heavy now that he just can't lift them as quickly or as high as he used to do. The first thing any player does when they slow down, is they stop trying to use a step. The just play direct and straight.

Some players can pull it off (Luke Lewis is a good example).

Others, like Lawrence, can't.

He was never a bulldozer type player who ran over the top of players, he ran at gaps.

He needs to modify the way he plays and fast. He's not going to get quicker. he has a decent sized frame, so he needs to learn how to use it.

Instead of thinking he's 21 and flying around everywhere, he needs to learn how to offload and how to draw two defenders and pass.

Jamie Lyon is a slow mover on his feet as well (laterally he's quicker than Lawrence, mostly because he's been in a side that uses slide defence better than anyone else for ages) but Lawrence should try and model his running game on Lyon's. Lyon just runs, draws, passes.

His wingers get tries on the platter all year long.

Lawrence is capable of this.

Furthermore, Lawrence has been getting good service all year from Brooks (moreso compared to the ball Simona gets from Anasta). Lawrence hasn't been quick enough to be in the right place at the right time to capitalise on it. I believe that's got a lot to do with benji's style which tended to leave everyone flat footed while they waited for a stupid f**king flick pass at their forehead or ankles. Even if that was the reason, he should be showing signs of growing out of that flat footed habit by now, but he isn't.

His game against Souths a few weeks ago was right up their with the worst individual performance I have seen from a Tigers player, last Sunday was only marginally better.

As for his partner in crime Lulia,he really doesn't do anything and when he does it usually bad. Are we all bad judges and have no idea.....Does Potter know something we don't. My guess it's just Potters way,you just keep hitting your head against the wall and one day it might work

I like the sentiment MU but there is one problem....Jamie Lyon is slick, fluent and very skilful with his hands and his feet. Lawrence is stiff, rigid, wooden and lacks any sort of subtle skills. And aside from that Lyon has one of the best football brains in the game.

Yeah unfortunately Lawrence is 100% opposite to Lyons , but thats what MU's point was , how he has needed to work on the rest of his skillset .. but he has always been unable to move on from a one dimentional player he has always been .( well what ive always seen him as )

2-3 seconds over 100??? That's somewhere between 15- 30 metres and it also means he wouldn't break 14 seconds! There would only be 1/2 a dozen players in the whole NRL that couldn't break fourteen seconds./100. I do concede though that he probably has lost a couple of tenths over 20m and that makes a hell of a difference and agree that he hasn't been at NRL standard for an extended period. It's the other mistakes in his game, that lead me to believe its a mental thing for him, the dropped ball and disappearance of his once reasonably solid D,.

I didn't say he should play like Lyon.

I clearly stated:

"Lawrence should try and model his running game on Lyon's. Lyon just runs, draws, passes"

Any sprinter will tell you that its the acceleration from a stationary start that determines ones speed.

And that is where Lawrence has lost a huge amount of pace.

As I said, he was once the quickest in the game off his first 3-6 steps.

Now he struggles to make the 6th step, he has lost that much acceleration.

NRL Lurker article below:

Lawrence to Raiders?
THE hottest transfer rumour in the game at the moment is that former Test centre Chris Lawrence could be headed from the Wests Tigers to Canberra.

Lawrence still has another two years to go on his deal with the Tigers and is on massive money.

But the Tigers are believed to be willing to cut the injury-plagued centre loose if the Raiders pay out a large slice of his remaining contract.

The Raiders are refusing to say anything about the deal after missing out on big names like James Tedesco, Kevin Proctor, Josh Mansour and Michael Ennis.

Ricky Stuart knows he needs to land a big fish to give his club credibility among players left on the market and the Raiders could well splash out on Lawrence, whose career has been stalled by a series of injuries.

Sadly though MU the following excerpt is true

"Lawrence still has another two years to go on his deal with the Tigers and is on massive money."
