As I said in my previous post, I don't think there's anyway that the Magic would do that straight-up. They can get much better.
They do run the FA risk though. Bynum and a pick isn't that bad of a deal and it keeps Howard out of the east...

There may be better packages out there for Howard, but if Howard wont re-sign with that team, they wont make the trade.

So the best offer they might get is Bynum and a scrub for Howard, as he wants to play in L.A.

Really? I don't really think it makes the Lakers better. Although I should wait for the final details before saying that.

I was satisfied when I initally thought that it was Bynum and Odom (even though losing him is a pain) because it meant that Gasol was still here. But if he's also going, it's a massive loss.

Tbh I feel pretty bad about the team just casting aside Gasol and Odom after everything they've done to win 2 titles and make 3 straight Finals. Feels kind of hollow.

How doesn't it make you better?

You get a top 5 PG to take pressure off Kobe.

Then you'll trade Bynum and Metta away and get Dwight & Hedo more than likely.

How doesn't a core of Paul/Kobe/Howard make the Lakers better? haha.

I'm saying the Bynum to Howard deal will get done because everyone is shit scared of the Lakers and will do a deal no matter what, even if it involves a third team.

Im with you on this Ridders, giving up Pau/Odom for Paul is way too much but im sure the Lakers have other things in mind cause they know we are severely short in the front court now, this is crazy!!!

Odom and Pau are older players who really showed significant decline in the post season.

Given that this season will have significant back to backs with no rests, the Lakers will need to rely on their second best player as I don't think Kobe play's every game.

Paul is a better #2 than Pau and Odom combined both as a facilitator and scorer.

They'll grab some cheaper vet's to do the same job, they'll likely get someone like David West to come there for the Vet Minimum despite the fact he could get decent $$ elsewhere.

They have two bad contracts on that team...Hedo & Arenas.

My betting would be the Lakers will need to take one to get Howard and then the Magic would amnesty the other.

Logic says the one included in the trade is likely Hedo as Arenas has no value for the Lakers. Hedo will at least contribute.

For most of his career, Kobe's played on the Lakers as the dominant ball handler and now suddenly, that's all going to change. We saw with the Heat that it isn't that easy to adjust and have to play more off-the-ball. At least with Lebron and Wade, they're both in the prime of their careers and they have time to figure things out. Kobe doesn't really have that luxury. It's going to take time for him to figure out how to play alongside a dominant PG.

Not to mention that the Lakers front court is just f**ked. They're pretty much changing the identity of the team on the fly.

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to surrender Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom in a trade for New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul, sources tell ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

Sources close to the process tell Stein that the Houston Rockets remain part of the talks and are trying to complete a deal that would send Gasol in Houston and the Rockets' Luis Scola, Kevin Martin and Goran Dragic to New Orleans along with Odom.

In Paul, the Lakers would be getting an All-Star and U.S. Olympic Team member who has averaged 37.1 minutes, 18.7 points and 9.9 assists a game in his six seasons.

Paul can opt out of his current contract with New Orleans after this season, and the Hornets have been fielding trade offers in an effort to acquire new players for the star guard rather than letting him walk in free agency.

The Rockets stuff still hasn't been decided.

If Lakers somehow get Howard for Bynum + Artest, I will be pissed

Orlando would be stupid to create a Lakers dynasty.

I still don't understand how it works salary wise. How can the Lakers give up Gasol and Odom and only take back Paul.

Gasol is on about $18 mill while Odom is on $9 mill while Chris Paul makes $16 mill. Someone else has to be coming back to the Lakers for it to work cap wise.

Chris Paul is my 2nd favourite player in the league, yet to me this trade feels kind of hollow. I loved Gasol and Odom.

Feel especially bad for Odom since, iirc, he took a pay-cut in his last contract to stay in LA.

I'm sure you'll live mate knowing Chris Paul and Likely Dwight Howard will be your core for the next 6-8 years haha.

It works with Okafor so im assuming its him, also i feel bad for Pau and Odom. Odom was interviewed by Stephen A Smith and was devastated but this is a business unfortunately.

Like others have said...likely Okafor will be included.

And then Orlando will trade Dwight and Hedo to Lakers for Bynum, Okafor & Picks

PG - Paul
SG - Kobe
SF - Hedo
PF -
C - Howard

RES - Kapano
RES - Walton
RES - Fisher

Okafor doesn't really help at PF though does he? He'd be more of a back-up for Bynum. I'd shudder to see a Okafor and Bynum front-court in action. Would have to be one of the slowest and immobile front courts in the league.

Why would Orlando want Okafor and Bynum? How can the Lakers fit CP3, Kobe, Hedo's contract and Howard under the cap?

Well it wouldn't be under the cap. The Lakers are already way over.

Kobe's salary is going to provide some great lols in the coming years.

They wouldn't be.

It'd be the luxury tax

Plus they'll find a way to get rid of Artest's stupid contract, Fisher will retire to reduce it to reduce tax level & they'll get rid of Hedo sooner or later, but they still need some depth players so they'll be high in the tax level.

These trade setting up Lakers POST-Kobe.

And Orlando wouldn't want them...they'll be made to take them...because Dwight will turn around and say "I'm not re-signing" to anyone else meaning Orlando wont get shit. So take what is given...a young centre and then some picks to re-build.
