RLW rated four players peformances better than Thurston's; Milford, Granville, Tamou & Taumalolo. I agree with their assessment on that front.

Tamou and Taumalolo I could accept but Granville and Milford both had very quiet second halves.

Easily the least deserving Churchill medallist. Granville or Morgan were much better, as they've been all year. Thurston's name was engraved on the medal so they had to give it to him.

Clyde in 1991 was the least deserving medalist. I think Granville was the Cowboys best player and Milford was the best player on the field and Jack Reed also played very well.

Thurston had very quiet/terrible first AND second halves, so Milford and Granville both still played far better than him.

It's seems obvious to me that the award was already thurston's prior to kickoff, and the only way he was going to lose it was if he both stunk if up big time, and then there was also another player who single handedly won his side the game. As it happens he did stink it up, but no one else managed to win the game on their own so it defaulted back to their golden child

How did Thurston get it?
I don't think I saw him have one run
He got tackled/smashed with the ball more than once...very avoidable too.
Missed the goal
For his standard it was a shit game
He never looked like kicking that goal
He should have given it to someone else...Coote kicks doesn't he?
Played injured .

Taumalolo was the best player on the field - he must have been close to the most metres in the game, and unlike other metre eaters (Scott) he's always a danger with the ball.

But as a poster above mentioned, JT would have likely had two try assists if his players were up to it. If those had stick then I don't think many would be complaining.

Im Morgs's biggest fan (seriously, im so into that guy) but theres no way he was better than JT last night. Up until that run/pass to send Feldt in i thought he'd been really quiet, and i usually pay extra notice to how he's playing. He wasnt running much at all and the only times i was hearing his name or seeing him was when he was tackling.

I didnt think anyone really stood out from either team and i guess the fact that people in this thread are naming Granville, Morgs, Tamou, Scott, Taumalolo, Milford, Cooper, Lowe etc... as contenders just highlights that fact.

JT deserved it as much as anyone else, but he kicked the winning field goal so im happy with the award going to him.

The award is officially a joke after last night. JT was barely playing at Tyrone Roberts level until he kicked the FG.

Seriously he is getting that many other awards and accolades it's not like anyone would have held it against him for not being the best on field every bloody game.

If they're going to be that blatant about giving it to media darlings they might as well just call it the lifetime achievement award.

At Tyrone Roberts' level  If you say so, sport.

JT wasn't the best on the field, I'll concur with that. Milford was better and probably the standout player from both sides.

But his side didn't win and that leaves him susceptible to not getting it. I know guys in losing sides have won it before but if Feldt doesn't score that try - which JT had no hand in - then Milford wins it. It's just how it is.

As someone else said, the Cows could've won in normal time if JT's outside backs didn't have breasts for hands. That's not his doing. He competed on every play. Morgan didn't, Granville played 50 odd minutes, Scott and Tamou were great but in a toss up, with a bit of sentiment thrown in, JT got it. And not undeservedly if you focus on a Cowboys viewpoint.

He might not have had the usual highlight reel but little moments like the chase back to field a grubber in the dying stages, those things win GFs.

So if anyone was dudded it was Milford, but his side didn't win. So be it.

How about that little knock to gift the Broncos a try? Do little things like that win grand finals too? How about being caught with the ball on the 4th multiple times in the attacking zone? Giving away multiple 7 tackle sets with shit kicks? Passing the ball to no one? Shanking long kicks into defenders multiple times?

He played like ass, and was just handed the award because he is Jonathan Thurston

Tamou, Taumalolo and Milford were all CLEARLY better.

But it simply doesn't matter. Giving JT the CCM was all about the Immortals narrative. They just want to build his resume and not for a second did I think anyone else would win the award.

But I'm still happy for the bloke. I've decided not to let the media lovefest for him get to me. He's a legend and a top bloke. Well played, JT. But eat a dick, media.

What a load of f**king bullshit, of course JT was MOM, no other player on the field had anywhere near the pressure on him that Thurston did. All the media crap , DM award bullshit and the pedestal his fellow players and NQ had him on were mind blowing . . . not to mention not being fully fit

Milford for instance put on the best playing performance but he wasn't shaking at the end of it, JT was MOM because he had to find a way to win or else. Some of you blokes on here wouldn't have a f**king clue what Thurston had to endure mentally or physically to win. You'd be the first wankers to claim him a choker if they'd lost . . . change to watching darts

Years from now when our grand kids ask us how great a player was Jonathan Thurston, we'll say 'he was a great, he was a clive churchill medallist', so our grand kids will upload this grand final into their hologram devices and watch the game and they'll be confused. They'll probably think 'well he did kick the field goal, but he was pretty average for the rest of the game, their were several othera better than him, surely our grandfather's were crazy or on drugs at the time'

For the last 6-7 years the CCM hasn't gone to the best player on the ground, but the most influential player of the season/finals
