watch the reply, he had Morgan covered, Oates came in leaving the wing open, Oates never got involved in the tackle, he slipped turning when it was to late. Oates stays out and Morgan either dies with it or Oates covers the winger.

Yup. Milford had him wrapped up. Reed held on his man but let Morgan get behind him and that was enough to pull Oates in. Milford would be bottom of the list of players who messed up there.

Milford. But JT deserves all the accolades for putting that team on his back the last 10 years.

Yeah.... how on earth did he manage to carry that team of international forwards and origin backs to a premiership :sarcasm:

Milford should have got it with nobody else even considered.
Having said that, Thurston could have come off injured in the 1st minute and never returned and he still would she won it.

Cannot believe I've watched all the post game, including the fox sports news wrap, and nobody is talking about Morgan's pass.

The single greatest play in GF history overshadowed coz Thurston is the better story. Sums up the Clive Churchill as well. At least five better players tonight.

Milford, 3 line breaks, a try assist, 216m and 2 huge one on one steals, one of the best individual Performances in a losing team. As for the cowboys, the runs from Tamou and Taumalolo were the reason the game was mainly played down the broncos half, they bent the line every time and the spine rally should've put on more points considering the opportunities they were presented with

Easily the least deserving Churchill medallist. Granville or Morgan were much better, as they've been all year. Thurston's name was engraved on the medal so they had to give it to him.

RLW rated four players peformances better than Thurston's; Milford, Granville, Tamou & Taumalolo. I agree with their assessment on that front.

Morgan may have thrown the moneyball but he was very average up until that point. No way he was best on field. Milford was great and should have been a genuine contender win or lose, probably hard done by. Tamou and Taumololo were tremendous.

Thurston in the last 20 was touching the ball 3-4 times a set and had a couple of opportunities taken away like with Linnett and Coote making crucial errors.

Not saying he was the standout but he was right up there regardless.

Let's not forget however that Thurston should have had at least one, maybe two try assists to his name if it weren't for the ineptness of his wing three quarters

I thought Granville from the Cowboys was the best tonight Cowboys were a different team when he was on the field IMO. But let's be honest Thurston was always going to get it.

Logically the medal should have gone to Milford. But the humans actually deciding the award did what humans do, they went with their emotions. I'm happy for JT but over the whole 80 minutes I don't even think he was the best Cowboys player.

While I wouldn't have chosen him to win the CC and i'd agree that it is not surprising that Thurston won it we do have to remember how great his standards, and our expectations of him are. He was still bouncing back from being smashed from pillar to post, he remained calm and composed in some crucial moments of the game and some of his lead up work was squandered by his support. I don't agree with the decision but I don't think it's a horrible one.
