City/Country

Im just wondering what the ruling is? Whether players who played for Australia can still eligible, or are they still automatically selected for Origin, barring injury. I mean we saw last year Joel Clinton played for Australia last year and was overlooked for Origin, cause Ryan O'Hara played better in the City/Country game. Just wondering if theyve still kept the same rules.

Ricky Stuart said recently that all players should be eligible regardless, and I agree with him. However they did that once, and scrapped it cause players that we're a certain for Origin got injured in that game.

I think it should stay, it'll be interesting to see the top class players play for City/Country. Also there could be a few bolters who could play in that match, I've got a list of players who would be eligible for City and Country. (starting from fullbacks to backrowers)

City:
Brett Hodgson
Anthony Minichello
Wade McKinnon (if fit)
Brett Stewart
Pat Richards
Luke Rooney
Luke MacDougall
Hazem El Masri
Eric Grothe
Mark Gasnier
Ryan Cross
Luke Lewis
Adam MacDougall (if he still wants to)
Braith Anasta
Brent Sherwin
Craig Gower
Matt Orford (though he shouldve represented Country)
Mark O'Meley
John Skandalis
Jason Stevens (if fit)
Jason King
Joel Clinton
Mark Riddell
Craig Wing
Bryan Fletcher
Lance Thompson
Anthony Watmough
Ryan Hoffman (although he might be Country but not sure)
Trent Waterhouse

Country:
Luke Patten
David Peachey
Joel Monaghan
Matt King
Timana Tahu
Matt Cooper
Amos Roberts
Scott Hill
Brett Kimmorley
Ryan O'Hara
Luke Bailey
Jason Ryles
Brent Kite
Anthony Tupou
Luke Priddis
Danny Buderus (no doubt he wont play in the ANZAC test)
Craig Fitzgibbon
Andrew Ryan
Nathan Hindmarsh
Shaun Timmins
Ben Kennedy
Luke O'Donnell
Glen Morrison

Ryan Hoffman was a Wests junior wich would make him a City boy, but he was originally from Canberra which is country.

How does it work?

Tupou was born and bred in Newcastle, before signing with the Roosters, he just has a Kiwi background like Mason, Tahu.

If Stewart's from Country, then theres every chance he'll get ahead of Patten and Peachey.

this game is useless........... scrap it for an extra test match at the end of the year

This game will be the highest rep honour some players achieve.

You wanna take that from them?

ALL rep games are neccesary, they are the personal goal that is unique to rugby league, from when a player is 12 yo.

That'd be a good idea, which players would be eligible for City/Country.

I know Country would have Slater, Bowen etc.

Dykes, Bailey and Gallen should all be considered as well.

Phil Bailey?? The bloke is useless.. what are you on about? I agree with Dykes and Gallen being in contention but not Bailey.. i didnt think he really deserved his rep's positions a few years ago but he definately doesnt now!!

There should be a Qld City-Country

It would be great to introduce Queensland's City Country game to NRL level, instead of just being for Qld Cup players as it currently is.

I'll put in possible teams soon.

I can't understand why O'Meley is eligible for City when he comes from the Central Coast like Morrison?

O'Hara won't be ready as he is out for at least a month with a shoulder injury.

Oh is this city-country dribble back again.

Just let the bloody thing die!

The only thing that comes out of it is injuries, as well all saw first hand that it makes no difference towards origin selection.

Ah gotta love it. Shades of 03 all over again. Raiders on top of the table but still none of them rate a mention for rep. teams.

Yes I think he should be considered for a bench spot. Rock solid this year and some of his creativity crept back in yesterday. I dunno if he should make the side but his name should definately be considered against the others.
