Has anyone been to an advanced screening or preview of Cloverfield yet ? If so I'd be interested on your thoughts...

Looks awesome. Trailer and official site can be found here

I hope the movie lives up to the hype.

Looks good doesn't it. From the snippets I've seen, they've tried to rely on the "less is more" principle and the dodgey hand-held camera work to make it look like a doco (a al "The Blair Witch Project"). A mate in the US told me that it doesn't match the hype but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Saw a preview for it when I went to see I am legend over the weekend looked pretty good. Although they've gone the shaky cam style ah la blair which it's obviously got some pretty high quality production values.

I love the premise behind it. J.J Abrams decided that Hollywood didn't have any big, bad monsters of its own - and went from there. So simple.

Saw it last night. Didn't live up to the hype. The jerky camera work was more annoying than anything and the movie just cut off at the end. A lot of stuff wasn't explained either and I expected a bit more given the success of "Lost".

Thanks for that ES. Was thinking of seeing it.
I can't handle jerky camera work at all so I'll give it a miss.

Fairly awesome.

Made for a "Cloverfield 2" and possibly 3, but still quite a decent movie for it's genre.

 Have you ever watched Lost, that show never explains anything!

There was no way this movie was ever going to answer all the questions relating to the monster.

Personally I thought it was a great movie, showed a monster flick from a perspective we have never seen before. Kinda like how Signs showed us an alien invasion from another point of view.

Yeah having seen it I basically look at it as a different take on the whole disaster/monster movie genre and a good one at that too. It was a little short but had it been longer I think they would have just been padding it out.

Then again I guess it depends what you were expecting. Personally I didn't have any notion of what it was about other than the fact there was going to be something it that went around destroying alot of stuff.

Is it typical JJ Abrams?

In that nothing happens for 80% of the time yet it can be streteched on and on.

How fit were those seemingly slothful yuppies in their highheals etc.
Ran all over town for 4 hours and then decided to jog up 30 flights of stairs - impressive.

went and seen it today. when i first saw the previews i was "meh", not really a fan of monster movies...but holy sh*t this movie was really good IMO. If you dont like shaky hand held camera type movies then you will hate this. (i aint a fan of it really...dont bother me ethier way really) but the effects are awesome, acting is pretty good and the story is good too...

This movie was effing awesome. The effects where second to none imo. The part where the soldiers start firing at it just made me want to pick up a weapon and start as well. Loved it...

Not to mention the chick who was impailed with a steel rod but once she had it removed she was up and running as though nothing was wrong. As I said I liked this movie but that part just annoyed me.

Yes - the impaled woman going in and out of a coma who got up and ran a half marathon must have taken some impressive drugs.

Just found out the chick who gets bitten by one of the little farkers plays the role of the buff lesbian in Mean Girls. Big transformation...
