Club Championship

Well done, Roosters.

To think that only ten years ago, this club finished second last in all three grades.

It's been a remarkable transformation.

For an inner city club to win the club championship in this day and age is a truly astonishing feat.

Credit where credit is due.

What's more amazing is how Parramatta failed to convert years of Club Championships into a premiership...

Because some clubs without their own juniors come and take them all after we won it.
Oh yeah and because B Smith is coach.

Many factors involved. Signing Phil Gould was the first step. Signing Brad Fittler was the second. From there it was a case of putting a first class recruitment and retention process in place. They also signed up good marketing people, put a lot of work into Easts Leagues and started strengthening their juniors base.

All these factors played their part in the transformation of the club.

I'm not a Roosters fan, per se, but I am a fan of the way they have gone about things, turning themselves from also-rans to the elite in under a decade. Clubs that are rebuilding, like Souths and Wests Tigers, should take great heart from what has happened there.
