Compare to our former coach what Flanagan is saying five mins after officially taking over the job. He is talking passion, legend, optimism, total commitment to the RED. Griffin was passionless, caused friction and instability. He was in my eyes our worst ever coach.

That article has given me heaps of hope , both seeing him trying to bring the St George area as a whole back into the fold and also him stating he is very active in the player market

Curious to see who is talking to for 2025

and who he has in mind for the 4-5 more signings for next year

This is good news as spells to me that Flanno has faith in the kid. Truth is Sloan is not the only one that needs this instilling attitude approach, Amone too and others, barring JDB and Blocka Lawrie. Flanno knows both Tyrell and Junior have untapped natural talent to make them more rounded footballers.

Carayannis on the ABC mentioned a top priority for Flanagan for 2025 is Keaon Kaloamatangi.

LEADERSHIP​

If captain Hunt were ever unavailable this season, the Dragons found themselves struggling to name a replacement captain. Leadership is an issue that Flanagan is eager to replenish.
“Benny has been a bit of a lone soldier for a while. When Jack de Belin was out, or Ben for that matter, the depth of leadership was lacking,” Flanagan said.
“In the process of doing exit reviews with the players on Tuesday, I’ve learned I need to expose them to how to lead.
“Gone are the days in sport where your best player is the automatic captain. I’m not sure what leadership structure I’ll have, but it could be three leaders. It could be one or two.
“I need to find out their strengths and weaknesses, and show them how I want them to lead, not just at training, but in meetings and on the field, at restaurants, hotels and in the community. There’s so many layers to leadership which I need to expose these boys to.’’

SCRUTINY​

Flanagan knows he’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
Yet even his harshest critics would recognise his willingness to learn from past mistakes, re-establish himself over the course of a long five years by leaving the game to work as a tradesman, help coach a junior league team, commentate with Fox Sports and work as an assistant coach, before earning his job ahead with the Dragons.
Still, the question remains, why would he ever want to return to the intense and brutal spotlight of the NRL?
“The time away has allowed me to be way better prepared to run a team,” Flanagan said.
“My time as an assistant coach has allowed me to sit back and view things in a different light.
“When you get older, you also calm down a bit. I was always wanting things quickly. Now I realise it takes time and it’s a process.
“I’m probably more passionate about having success than ever before.
“My passion is to win another competition. I want to get the Dragons back into the eight, then top four and not just once, but every year.”

Great read, yes only words but well put and it feels what we need. When I saw Paul McGregor mentioned i shuddered for a wee second. :)

Flanno sounds fantastic. I heard he was good, but reading that article was a pleasant surprise (I only say surprise as I have not had in-depth exposure to him before). Ticking all the right boxes and saying all of the right things. Something about his personality trusts that its not just talk. I had to laugh that he is getting Sloan to box and wrestle. No more running back into your goal area to avoid a tackle young lad. Time to toughen up sonny boy.

Flanno has the runs on the board, rebuilding the Red V into a heavy weight again, so when I read the article I have greater expectation than any other coach post Wayne Bennett.
I did expect better from Anthony Griffin, however looking back in hindsight, the young panthers team he had, have become somewhat untouchable, he could not attract 1 player from them.

“I’ve never had any issues with Flanno, and we’ve had some open conversations. I think he’ll bring in a good culture; he’s straight up and down, he’s got history with being good at recruitment, and what we need is some senior players with experience who can help the young squad.

“At this stage, I’ll be heading back to the Dragons for the pre-season.”
