Coach Flanno

So.. now on to the elephant in the room. The ethical concerns.. anyone want to comment about that? Assuage my concerns, in particular. How does a boss enforce a culture of discipline, when he didn't follow the rules himself? Keen to hear some argument on this

Transparency, be honest with everything including any questions about his past indiscretions or concerns. I would hope he uses himself as an example of the consequences of poor culture/discipline & why it's crucial to have 'good' culture (within the team at the bare minimum).

I also hope he takes a collaborative approach to culture to get involvement from the players, eventually leading to it being player driven so they feel they've got some input into the direction of the team/club. I think having a player driven culture is very important as it sets standards & holds peers accountable without the hovering nature of coaches which can get tiresome.

I think we're seeing a bit of the player driven culture this season, the youngsters were having unanimous open support of hook this season. In the last few weeks, especially in the souths game we've seen Ben Hunt & Jaydn Su'a have great performances with Su'a in particular being very vocal within the group. Imo we've turned the corner on the culture aspect.

You can support drug cheats if you want. The fact that I won't support a guy who, still to this day denies he ever did anything wrong, doesn't make me a dickhead. It just means that I don't let support of my team get in the way of my morals. Good luck to you and your ilk who can overlook the harm he could have done to players

Mate, you follow & support the NRL, you're moral are already in the bin

Looking at Flanno's past, I don't recall many good juniors/players wanting to leave the Sharks for greener pastures or bag the guy when they leave. They all seemed to love playing for the guy. If anything it is the opposite as he lured Graham and Lewis from Penrith to the Sharks who played huge roles in the Sharks glory days. They were both guns at the Panthers. Moylan also came across which I thought was surprising at the time. He has a good eye for talent.
One thing for sure, he gets the players to play to their potential which is what we need more than anything as Sloan, Sullivan, Lomax, Feagai's, Molo's etc have a heap of potential which I feel have not been properly utilised.

If Saints finish the season strongly I cannot see Ryan Carr being let go. As for Ben Wolffe, he has some serious work to do with defence because that has not been up to scratch and I can see Flanno bringing in an old mate like John Morris.

How good will next years game be against the Sharks. Plenty of build up and stories to come from that.

I find it very doubtful that Flano Jr will 'follow' his father to the Dragons. I actually don't know where this has even come from.

Hint will stay at #7, Bud is cementing his place in the starting 13 as our #6.
There is still the lingering doubt surrounding Jr Amone and young Herring is next in the queue.

Apparently Flanno and Hunt are good buddies as they live near each other and may even socialize. So what we dont want is another coach that plays favorites, with Flanno stating that he intents playing him at half. This is imho tantamount to giving Hunt what he wants whether it is the club's best interests or not. Certainly not if if means Sully walking.

So what are you saying? Do the dragons make Flano sell his house and move further away from Hunt's house to avoid socialising. FFS Flano hasn't even signed up yet and you are already muttering about playing favourites. Please wait until there is actually some evidence that favouritism has reared its ugly head.

Sullivan isn't going anywhere mate, he's happy enough to play 6 next to Hunt, that is clear. Plenty of good halfbacks start their careers as a 6 next to a senior 7.

Not set in stone mate that he will be the 5/8 till Hunt leaves. Perhaps Flanno wont want him there as part of his restructuring, instead go for someone with some game management skill.

Dont get me wrong, I wanted Flanno. Just hope he is not playing favorites as that got up my nose when Griffin did it.

Currently I think our best squad is Hunt at 7 and Sulli at 6, Amone unsure where he can be I'm not sure on his future. I would agree Bird would be a better 14. I would like to see the squad operate under a seasoned coach and look for improvement. Lets see how the boys play now they know who the coach is and that they may be playing for their contracts.

Think Connor Watson will be a good way to go for the 14. This means letting go of Mbye too. Amone and Herring can pair up in reserves. Pending Amone's legal trial and form in reserves, we may let him go or find a positional switch at some stage, with the view of progressing the likes of King-Togia, Ward, Reed, etc.

Wilton and Sele priority targets for next year as well. We need to build this roster slowly and not get carried away by picking up the likes of Luke Thompson on big money deals for next year. 2025 it's looking like can be a year where we pick up a bit more quality. If we can pick up a good front rower or second rower that's under contract then that's great and wouldn't go astray. Paseka and Blore come to mind.

Being realistic, a passable signing spree given how late we've left it would look similar to: Connor Watson, Wilton and Blore/Cartwright, Hame Sele, Averillo (although not entirely sure where exactly to fit him in to the backline). So, that'd be five good pick ups with none breaking the bank. Then, some serious cash to splash for 2025 on real high quality players to slot into a team with pretty good foundations.

I think Tuitavake will be in the mix somewhere.

I hope so. He will be in the top 30 next year and hopefully vying for a spot in the 17. Seems to be going well in reserves with impact off the bench although I did see him miss a shocker that led to a try in a NSW Cup highlights package either last game or the one before. Hopefully that isn't part of his game usually. Excited by him from what I've seen though.

Last few pages of this thread have been , well , interesting.

He was not my choice for head coach, as a result of the massive breaches, however I think he has paid the price.

He's on board now and I will back him.

I do wish he would take over NOW, and start moulding the team he wants for 2024.
