Coach Flanno

with respect, I'd say don't worry about the tea leaves and board driven conspiracy plots to bring back Dean Young. Flanno is on the record as saying he drove the appointment. Yes... he is cut from the Dragons cloth, no doubt has relationships but is that always a bad thing? He played under Bennett and was at the club when we went to the top. Yeh he has not exactly shot the lights out at the Cows but I would argue they are a stronger club than when he joined. It's tough to attribute success and failure to assistants - we see that time and time again that it's not an exact science. If we get to the point where Flanno is sacked... by the current logic... he too would be connected to that failure.

Personally - I think that Flanno knows this is his shot at coaching redemption and is looking well beyond his 3 year term. I wouldn't bake in another forehead wrinkle overthinking Deano's involvement in the coaching staff but hey - free country!
Great post, and I agree. Another side note, Young's family and presumably close friends all live in the Illawarra. That seems enough motivation for him to re-join the club - I doubt a promise of the top job (tacit or otherwise) would be required.

Flanno was not the club's first choice. Hasler did not want the deal and in the end, Ryles shied away as well, which leads me to the thought that bringing Young back was maybe one of the conditions.

Flanno has been there and done that. If he succeeds in steering the Draongs to a top 4 spot, then there will be many clubs wanting his services so, he is not concerned about the time after is current contract.

On the other hand, Dean Young has not stood out as an assistant coach at the Dragons or at the Cowboys. He really needed to go to the ESL and coach a team to win something; and prove himself as a head coach.

This will be another case of putting self-interest ahead of the best interests of the Club. Something we have witnessed on many occasions over the past 30 years. For a very long time, the finger can be pointed at Young and Doust as being driven in this regard.

I figured that whatever he said wasn’t complimentary. I think Flanno is playing the long game on this one and is intending to maximise whatever we get in return whenever he lets the Chunt go. If what you are saying is true, and I’d like to see a verification of this, I’m liking the cut of Flanno’s jib.

If the plan is for Lomax at fullback, who has Flanno got to play left center? Suli to right center; his natural position.

It’s a 10 week injury. How is he out till April 2024??
Good call lets play an injured player with limited pre season training to play a major position in a team, his defence in 2023 was bottle material.
Lomax to Start at Fullback, Sloan on the wing.

Geez I’m glad you’re not on our HPU or we wouldn’t be able to field a side from round 1.
The comp starts in March not January. It’s an ankle injury with a 6-10 week turnaround not a major knee injury
