With 7 weeks to go it’s fair to say the list of candidates has shortened. Is it a 2 horse race between Mcguire and Robinson? Will the minor premiership be the deciding factor or will getting the Warriors/Panthers to the 8 be enough for the likes of Elliot and Cleary?

Anyways, it's Macguire.

Robinson for mine.
Although Macguire has done exceptionally well, he has had his team for a longer period than Robbo, and is rebuilding on last year's efforts.
Robinson has done wonders with a new team in the first year.

I remember a few months ago...people were saying Robbo who?
"Roosters will run last, Chooks for the spoon, etc, etc..."
Well they have certainly eaten their words.

Flannagan has done a pretty great job given everything that club has been through this year. McGuire is my pick though, he's taken souths to the top of the tree this year. Will be minor premiers and are premiership favourites and rightfully so.

I think both the roosters and souths have strong rosters so its a bit easier to get them to the top of the table.

its a lot harder for a guy like Cleary to work with what he has at Panthers and my hats go off to him on a team that was expected to come last to be in final contention and with the amount of injuries they have had.

Also second would be Elliot on turning the Warriors totally around but the warriors roster has always been strong to start with.

give the coach of the year to teams struggling to make the top 8

Having said that Steve Price gets my vote. Comedy Central all season from the Merge

If Maguire didn't win it last year, why would Robinson win it this year?

Maguire in 2012 did exactly what Robinson has done in 2013 yet didn't win it.

Fair point.
TBPH the coach of the year should be awarded on stage at the GF presentation. Because the coach of the year is probably the guy holding the premiership trophy with his captain.

Robinson has done wonders with the Roosters but it will mean absolutely nothing if he's standing there on GF or Prelim day, consoling players after a loss.

You need a lot to win a premiership, you've got to juggle tactics, players coming in and out, form, man management, injuries, peak performances... and the coach who manages that best each year will likely wind up the premiership winner and coach of the year

Right now, though, given the Rabbitohs are clear out in front for the minor premiership, i cant see how he doesnt win it

I was gonna vote Price. He's my favourite coach, anyway

:lol::lol:

He's the favorite coach of 15 NRL Clubs.

Robbo by a mile. He's the games next supercoach IMO. Roosters on the verge of a nother golden era.

f**k it. f**k it all to hell!

If the Warriors continue some killer form, Elliot could be a smokey...

I'd say Robinson over Maguire, purely based on what the teams are actually producing...Souths are very impressive, but Roosters are playing more entertaining football, they've had 5 shut-outs (several of which with the penalty count against them methinks) and their style of play is different to everyone elses, its not a case of position and possession leads to points, its brickwall defense PLUS innovative attack thats got them where they are...
