Coaching options...

Coaching Directors have not worked in the past and are a complete wank. All it says is a struggling club has no confidence in the head coach, so they appoint a more senior figure head ready to pounce when things turn ugly. I recall Phil Gould was a coaching director for the Chooks when Sticky got sacked as head coach. Arthur Beetson also a director over Fittler then also sacked. Last year Chris Anderson at the Eels over Stephen Kearney then sacked as well. It's a recipe for total disaster....would be like Rudd and Gillard together.

Yes I mean Gould is working well at Panthers, but more because he is a celebrity and very good with recruitment & I imagine giving speeches to players to encourage them.. but Cleary is still very much the coach and very much a good one too.

Oh sorry I didnt know there was a difference? What do you see as the difference in those roles?

Don't panic Doust is about to reward price with a 2 yr. extension for his win today:cool::crazy::crazy:
No joke thats the only negative from the win, pressure is released, but im hoping this time its too little too late and the wheels are in motion.

I see it more the club see Price is too nice a guy and Dragons tragic and desperately want to see him succeed.
The tough decision is needed and if a coaching director is appointed rather than a new head coach I would be totally p*ssed off.

...this is how I see it too. We are the über-Mr-Nice-guys of the NRL.

Don't get me wrong, i like it and am proud of it, but too much of it and the success curve heads south for want of a lack of 'uncompromising-know-where-you-stand-hard line' approach to leadership.

yep, too much politically correct junk with the approach of not criticising people because it will scar them. It's time to decide - toughen up if you want to be a successful team or keep being nice guys & being prepared to accept failure because "the team was trying & the effort was there".

Oh yeah & they are all good blokes.

ABC radio commentator today (not certain who) speaking up Price as the right coach with the ability, respect of the players, and he should be there next year.

I'm not sure if he likes or dislikes the Dragons...

Commentators annoy me because they sort of sit across 16 clubs, sometimes they know whats going on, but quite often I find they sort of skip across the detail... perhaps its their job to be more up to date, but they just dont seem to have the vested interest us supporters do.. analysing every game, player, studying juniors, picking trends.. you dont do that unless yoru passionate about something.

So when they have an opinion on Price or Rein or Fein or Vidot or whoever.. I try to ignore it because its rarely accurate or up to date, and the only problem.. is that these commentators have a habit of changing public opinion because 500,000 NRL fans (not just dragons fans) hear something or read something and it becomes FACT (then they tell their friends).

Id rather go with Gary Belcher's comments during yesterday's game - "the Dragons attack has no purpose, they dont seem to know what they are doing next !" The story of 2013, happy with the win but I felt the Warriors were going to score at any moment during the second half but the blew it.

That commentator was Matt Head the former Dragons half, whom also said he speaks to Pricey regularly about the halves. He certainly was talking him up as a top bloke and saying dragons are in good hands with pricey in charge. I was beginning to think they were related or Matt Head is auditioning for the role of specialist halves coaching assistant....

Tell him to look at the results over last 2 seasons, a disgrace and lowest point in 50 years...

...that's it, he stated as he saw it, and stated he could not work who, what side or what play they were trying to achieve. That's poor coaching, poor execution and confusion that they can't play what is in front of them. Warriors were rubbish yesterday and they are an example of 'attitude' over 'effort' and 'ability' on any day of the week they can beat any team, but as
Matthew Elliot stated, this needs to be addressed by the Warriors during off season. Too many times the attitude is not there and they fold up. Although frankly we have been low across attitude, effort, ability this season...Injury toll and player skill set and out of position options have not helped..

I agree...it was totally bizarre comments by Head like the club had giiven him a back hander to spread some good PR about Price. The reality is he's been a major flop and some 500 fans have signed a petition for his removal. The Cowboys club have over 2500 signatures to reinstate Neil Henry. Spot the difference !

I found Matt Elliots post match conference compelling listening. It was open, honest and accurate account of this side and where they are at. you can tell he is passionate, without getting angry. His analogy with the roosters-souths game on fri night rang so true, and says alot where we are at too, except our Coach can't seem to Progress the side at all.

One can only hope that the review is an open and honest appraisal of the last two years. In which case the only possible conclusion will be what we all know and that is Price can't coach. It was nice to win yesterday but the warriors were awfull. How long have people here been saying play Fien off the bench as hooker. How many weeks were wasted with Stanley at 5/8 before Quinlan got a go. It goes on and on. There is no way Price can stay on for next year.

If Price stays on as coach next year we will be odds on to miss the 8 again - that's 3 consecutive years!

That is unacceptable.

Take it as read!!

Price will be told to move back to assistant coach job next to Sheens...(This move is taken straight off what happened to Stone when Bennett came in to the Knights..." This way they keep Price contracted for one year and no need to pay him out...offer Sheens a 3 year deal.....Have Price take the team under instructions from Sheens (which lets face it first 2 months (Nov/Dec) is all physical and then Sheens moves in from Jan 7, 2014..

This is the play....if Sheens falls over expect Smith or Anderson to be approached and Price offered the same deal.....

Smith and Sheens have both been spoken to by the club in the last 4 weeks...

Quite some time ago I said it would likely be Sheens as coach and Price as assistant. Anyone of the people below in order of preference would make a good coach:
1. Sheens
2. Smith
3. Henry
