5-blot

Officially the Coast's worst result ever, unless they're able to pull one back.

Please. Full credit to Adelaide for making it that far, but I can't even seem them doing it again. Melbourne or Sydney will be the next club to make it that far - unless NQ or GC have blinders.

How f**king embarrassing. #-o

I know there's a whole bunch of cut-offs but really, having us (top ranking HAL teams) in the Champions League is plain stupid and redundant if the competition happens 13 months after the conclusion of the season in which you qualify.

Newcastle and CC were at the peak of their powers back then, both playing quality football... now CC are a rabble and Newcastle are only just starting to improve.

Still, no excuse for tonight's performance. Disgusted at the lack of effort. McKinna needs to hook Mrdja and stick him in park football, he should NOT be striker. Macallister is wasted out wide and I'm f**king filthy on the club for letting Sash run off to the bogan town. :x

Rant over, back to supporting the 'Dogs :sarcasm:

I do agree that the odds are stacked heavily against Australia. Were it not for the salary cap, sides could feasibly be just as good or better after winning the comp - but that's not the case. Every side that's won the big one has slumped just a little the following year and it makes solid ACL performances very hard to come by.

I was going to mention the salary cap... are we the only league in the AFC that is constrained by it?

I'm not sure. I do understand why it's in place - but it's just ensuring that dynasties can't be built, Australian taleint disappears overseas each and every year, the few good players we import never stay long, and we struggle to compete at continental level.
