Lomax, Ramsey, the Feagai brothers, and Sullivan are the beginning of a line of youngsters coming through. These young guns, under our new coaching staff will change the culture at Saints.

I just can't wait to see things turn around and for Saints to takes it's place at one of the top 4 clubs in the competition again.

Agree Possm,

Our young guns you mention are exciting.

Haven’t been this excited since Dufty/Field/Sele/Robson/Garrick were emerging.

Of those five I think we kept the right one - by far. Credit where it’s due to Recruitment.

I’d add Lawrie, Ford and Blacker to your list of youngsters for next year.

Lawrie is at the right age to go next level, Ford too with another year and well - Blacker could be anything with his size (and right development).

Can’t wait to see what these players will do and what the new Coaches will produce.

It’s been mentioned in previous years but I expect Lawrie to be the most improved player in the NRL. A big year for him, Kerr and Ford if they can fix up the latter twos effort and defence respectively

Great to see this level of optimism ALGSI. The place will go nuts if Saints put 40 on the Sharks in round 1.

2021 should be a chance to see a little more on Ramsey, and once we do, I think he joins Lomax on a longer terms contract (3-4 years feels fine, especially with the new contract direction that the nrl is taking). Fegai brothers also should be looked at, at least Max based on what I saw... for the same. Sullivan is the next one I’m considering as well.

if we have room in the cap, I’d be interested in a longer term context upgrading directly to make use of the cap space we have, and tie up a really talented back line.

Then forwards should be a focus for recruitment once Hook evaluates what we have and what we are missing...

Snow Dragon, the players you mention are most likely a big part of the squads future moving forward. I think we have to be prepared for these youngsters to make a few mistakes in 2021.

Yes they will bring the crowds back with their flair and dedication but they like all rookies will lack experience. They will be all the better for this off-season training/fitness sessions and will only get better for the experience gained on the field in first grade next season.

We can be sure of one thing, these young guns will bring speed back into our backline and dedication back into our defensive line.

Good to see Ramsey pushing up around 90kg. If he can keep his speed and over the next off season or two get that up over 90 maybe even 95 odd he could be very special. Hook commented on how fast he is and said he was shocked how fast he was and he just seems to go whoosh. I can see him having a really good year, looks a character too so can become a real cult hero.

Lack of forwards at the moment is a concern
I agree but that is because we are judging our forwards on last season's performance and so far there has not been the replacement of 3 big losses in our forward ranks; Graham, Frizell and De Belin. Yes someone will play in the position that was vacated but none so fare are 'like for like or better'.

I'll be excited to see the pleasant surprises:

  • Breakout seasons for Ramsey, Max Feagai, Kerr and Blacker.
  • Greatly improved on-field performances from Norman, Hunt and Ravalawa.
  • General improvement in performance from the rest of our 17 in attack and defence.

Rising Red V star Ramsey bulking up for second season

When Cody Ramsey returned home to Molong after St George Illawarra's season ended he visited a local park for a kick around and was stunned that dozens of kids turned up.

"All these kids were there to see me and I was like 'far out'," Ramsey said. "I said to maybe three or four kids that I was going to the park and I had a few footballs but I think there was about 50 kids from Molong who turned up. I have never seen so many kids on the field in my whole entire life."

After a stunning two-try debut against Canberra in round 18 and impressive performances against Newcastle and Melbourne, Ramsey has been gaining a lot of attention – and not just among the 2000 residents of the western NSW town where he grew up.

New Dragons coach Anthony Griffin regularly mentions the 20-year-old's name in discussions about his line-up for next season and has ordered him to bulk up by seven kilograms by Christmas.

Weighing in at 83kg at the end of the season, Ramsey has been on a diet that involves eating about every 90 minutes of his waking day, while he spends more time in the gym than doing fitness drills.

Ramsey has a double on debut

"We had a meeting after our last game and his goal for me was to set a weight," Ramsey said. "I was skinny and scrawny so he set me 86kg as my comeback weight [for pre-season training]. I worked pretty hard and got up to about 87 and now I am pushing 90kg for Christmas.

"My main goal is to put on some size and put on some strength because my body is not good enough to maintain a whole NRL season. It needs to be strong, it needs to be bigger and that is just something I need to work on myself.

"I'm eating about every hour-and-a-half – just a sandwich or something and a protein shake in the morning, at lunch time, in the arvo, before you go to bed or just whenever you can fit it in.

"They feed you here [at training] all the time and I am focusing on gym more than I do with fitness because I am already pretty fit. My focus is the gym and eating, and I feel it is paying off."

While fullback remains his preferred position, Ramsey is happy to bide his time on the wing as Matt Dufty has made the No.1 jersey his own after being consistently one of the Dragons' best performers in a disappointing season.

For Ramsey it was a season of mixed fortunes which began at the NRL Nines in Perth, where he was the leading try-scorer of the tournament, included a long lay-off after surgery shoulder and finished with him securing a place in the starting line-up for the final three matches.

"The week that I was coming in to debut I said 'I have barely played much football, I don't know how well I am going to go here'," Ramsey recalled.

"I was feeling pressure but the boys got around me and they said you run circles around us at training and they wouldn't have put you there if they didn't think you could do the job for us.

"I was definitely nervous and I had doubts but you can't really doubt yourself when you come into an NRL debut."

To help him unwind, Ramsey has taken to fishing and he recently bought a boat.

"It's something I got into when I moved here," he said. "I just froth fishing, it's awesome. I've got my boat and it is good mentally just to relax."

Well, I guess it's all up to Dufty now. Unless the new coaching staff can turn him into Slater mk2 we have a ready to go replacement.

He reminds me of Billy Slater and already shows a great football brain with tons of speed. We should lock him up long term as i believe he will be exceptional fullback.
I may be wrong about Dufty but he has got to improve consistantly with the high ball and defence to keep his spot.

This kid will be a star because of his work ethic.
I know it sounds stupid but I reckon you can tell a lot about someone from their Instagram account.
Cody is nothing but football, training, family and fishing. He seems like a good country boy.
Then go look at Norman's Instagram. Nothing but boozing, clothing brand, homeboys and rubbish.

Zac Lomax also seems like a really good kid.
