Maybe it's only been a handful of games but let's not forget this kid has had to work on his body and also return from a horrible mouth injury that only a player who gives his all would receive, and all for the cause of the Red V. I was writing him off last year with his ineffectual kick returns so it goes to show the coach was right on this one.

His sheer speed and line running has been brilliant the last couple weeks and most importantly is finding his way to the line. Brought back those memories of Tingha which are the reason people go to the footy. Looks more and more steady out the back in defence, under the high ball and you can rely on him to put himself in the right place when sniffing around for the ball.

Easy to lose sight of this in a team going so awful but I just wanted to acknowledge Cody. I was ready for Sloan to have his breakout year and was pumping him up pre-season as not only the x-factor but positive cultural icon the club needed. Instead, for now, Ramsey is showing he has the determination and the ability to better our team, and let's hope he is now a mainstay for years to come.

Dragons played well in patches , but simply outclassed by a more professional outfit that had a coach that knows how to get the very best from his players .

Unfortunately as much as it pains me to say it , the Big Red V will require a complete overhaul , including recruiting quality players , coaching staff and a complete change of attitude from the very people who run the club - they must be success oriented and be able to make the hard decisions come what may , all for the good of the team .

Ramsey ? Always had the makings of a good player and once again has shown his value . It’s such a damn shame that he skills cannot be complimented by more quality teammates , as then he would truly become a far more dangerous player to opposition teams .

I’d like to know what the medics say about his chances of ever playing football again Before getting excited. I’d say they won’t do the complicated surgery just to see him go back to NRL & risk it all. Such a shame, imagine how good he would be just when we needed him.

The main positive is that if he is doing some training of any kind he is feeling quite a bit better. Health first for him, football comes after that

Cody Ramsey has taken his first step towards an NRL return, joining St George Illawarra teammates for his first field training session in 18 months after his career was thrown into jeopardy by a severe illness.
The St George Illawarra speedster has endured a series of major medical issues over the past 18 months, severely impacting his life and leading doctors to believe he would never return to the NRL.

While physically Ramsey is still a shadow of his former self, his determination to prove the experts wrong was rewarded when he joined his teammates on the field in Wollongong for his first ball work session in a year and a half.
“Without a doubt, it was a big step for him,” Dragons coach Shane Flanagan told the Herald on Monday. “It was amazing to see the smile on his face and how much it meant to him. Look, to be honest, he is a long way away from playing in the NRL, but for everything he has been through, it was just great to see him back healthy and with the boys.”

The Dragons ruled Ramsey out for all of 2023 and 2024 in line with medical advice after his diagnosis in late 2022, but refused to cut ties with the talented outside back.

The club decided to extend his contract, splitting the final year of his deal over two seasons to keep him at the Dragons until at least the end of 2025.
Ramsey, a prodigious rugby league talent, has endured several major operations over the past 18 months. Complications raised doubts over his ability to live a normal life, let alone return to professional contact sport.
Ulcerative colitis is often caused by an immune system malfunction, causing inflammation and ulcers on the bowel and digestive tract.


Ramsey started experiencing discomfort while on a 10-kilometre run during pre-season leading into 2023 campaign. He was taken to hospital, where he remained for several weeks, and was later diagnosed with the condition.

The Molong product faced an uphill battle to play in the NRL again but was determined to stay in close contact with his teammates during rehabilitation. He has been a regular in the gym as he tries to replace the significant amount of weight he has lost since he became ill.
“He’s done a lot of work around the club but he hasn’t been able to get on the field,” Flanagan said.
“But today he was able to start running again. He warmed up with the boys and was out there running and catching for a while. It was great to see him out there happy, smiling and doing what he loves, which is playing footy with a ball in his hand.

“He’s still got a long way to go to get on top of his health issues, but it was good for him to be back out there. If you told people 12 months ago that he would be back out there running with the boys, they wouldn’t have believed you. That’s how far he has come and that’s how much he has had to endure.

It would be an absolute miracle to have someone with his condition returning back to professional sport and especially a contact sport like NRL. It would be a brave medico to give him a release to return. What a story it would be of pure passion and dedication to make this comeback, for Ramsey he deserves all the special wishes from everyone concerned. While we've all been justified in slamming Dragons management for the sh*tshow they've presided over for the last decade or so, the support the club has given to Cody has been heartwarming. And he seems like such a nice young guy too.
A good example of how fragile an NRL career can be.
