UNF's Jay DeFau
Rugby League is starting to take hold in college on the east coast, particularly in Florida.
The University of North Florida is due to tangle with the University of South Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday.
American National Rugby League franchise the Jacksonville Axemen have seven of its younger players who will be playing for UNF, and for the first time in the teams history they will be taking center stage on the main field at Hodges Stadium.
The Axemen expect Jay De Fau, who joined the Leeds Rhinos training squad during their stay in Jacksonville last month, to lead the way for the UNF Deadbirds in an effort to prove that his time spent with the World Champions did not go to waste.
"I expect big things from Jay this weekend. He has been training now for over a month and the week spent with the Rhinos should have him at the top of his game at this level, said Jacksonville Axemen CEO Spinner Howland.
I will also be paying close attention to those players that gave us service during the 2008 season to see if they have made any efforts to maintain their fitness levels over the holiday break."
UNF has almost 30 players competing every week to make the starting team for the school and the Axemen are also interested in looking at some of the newer guys at UNF to see what talent may lie within their ranks.
"We will be there for the entire game and we will be taking notes. You never know when the next star is going to wipe the dirt off his face so you can see him shine, added coaching staff.
The following UNF players are also on the Axemens roster - Max Schwartz, Jay DeFau, Rob Canadine, Matt Visalli, Josh Jackson, Nick Shea, Randy Dewey and John Turlington.
