Wonder if the publicity strategy for this inaugural tournament will swing into gear soon? I note codes like union are getting their tournaments plenty of publicity on Fox sports channel and the Big Sports Breakfast on Sky radio.

Rugby league being proactive again!? Not!
I've noticed that it seems like their is a policy of containment with respect to rugby league in the international sphere.

The RLWC marketing strategy was on par with what one of the illiterates on here could have come up with in about 12 seconds.
Don't get your hopes up for an amateur offseason hit and giggle comp.

Not a case of hope? Surely an innaugural tournament with Commonwealth games links is something that should be publicised? I note other codes are using the Commonwealth games for PR leverage. It creates and strengthens 'credibility ' of a sport in the eyes of the general public. Once again rugby league put to the backwater!

I can't see an under 23s nines comp whose only link to the Commonwealth Games is that it's being played kind of close to the event time wise and geographically and is called "Commonwealth Nines Championships", even though it's without a NZ or several other RL playing Commonwealth countries, drawing too much attention regardless.

Not the point. It's the association with the Commonwealth games for rugby league that will be seen as a positive. Not the quality. Moreso it (RL)exists therefore adding recognition to the code. And we know that the code is not expansively known for a numbet of reasons. And being part of, no matter how small, is a positive for the game to the general public whom otherwise would not know rugby league exists in such a format. It adds both presence and legitimacy to the code which in reality is struggling to be recognised as a sport by other organisations.

It won't even be televised.
I'd say that the disappointing size of the event as ECT mentioned would be a poor reflection on the sport and will actually detract from its legitimacy - but for that to happen someone would actually have to see or be aware of the event.

And thats my point. Apparently the host town of Redcliffe is supportive ofvthe Nines. Might help if RL was the same!

What it COULD be

Australia
New Zealand
Tonga
Samoa
Fiji
PNG

England
Wales
Scotland
Northern Ireland
Malta

South Africa
Namibia
India
Canada
Jamaica

16 teams. Some of whom are interesting 'newcomers'.
2 days.
Actually promoted and televised this would be a great event.

Yes Adamkungl.Spot on but another opportunity lost. My gut feel that their is a determined behind the scenes effort to contain rugby league in the world sphere. Too many examples of odd and untoward lack of publicity and effort are being witnessed and let go to the keeper for something dodgy/undermining to not be happening within the RL administration of today?

The problem is within RL.
South Africa openly stated their intention to participate. But were they given the opportunity? Far as anyone can tell the competition was locked at 8 nations for reasons unknown, and those 8 are the usual suspects from Oceania and the UK. If NZ bothered to participate I suspect Wales would have been given the boot or something.

Or Canada, in case it looked too global.
