Consolidation, reclamation and expansion with additional clubs in the NRL

Im not trying to say destroy the sydney brands, evolve is the better word, evolve into a better version of what sydney needs, otherwise the whole league would have perished without the mergers, and bootings for tigers, magpies, bears, jets, steelers,
I personally want bears to re take the north sydney area, but we are already have so many teams next door to each other, east/souths/canterbury and cronulla/stgeorge

St.George could move to Wollongong permanently, but really its not nessesary, but Easts could do what the dragons are doing now and bridge both kogarah and Wollongong

Wests Tigers encapsulates both Campbelltown & Balmain, they could have just eclipsed each other one way or another, but they are sharing locals

Other teams especially in the inner city areas need to start looking at branching out

It's questionable the league would have perished at all! Some of the mergers were ok: St George/ Illawarra having both a colour synergy, historical relevance with each other and strong Dragons motif which was far more accepted than the very American version in "Steelers ". What was a mistake was the Western Suburbs Magpies should have been offered a relocation as West Coast Magpies in Perth.(much like the AFL Swans/Bloods set up) And Balmain Campbelltown Tigers should have been in vogue(giving Campbelltown a sense of belonging and maintaining the iconic Balmain name all in one. This keeps both iconic names and brands and colours in recognisable form for fans. As discussed before, life for the Bears should be a relocation of sorts to Gosford as the Central Coast Bears. THIS WITH ALL EXISTING CLUBS IN PLACE. That's what should have happened. And ofcourse Brisbane 2 but the Broncos are stopping that reality!

Sorry but Balmain Campbelltown tigers is a terrible name, Wests tigers is far superior, as for St.George-Illawarra Dragons, they Tried to merge the names like you pointed out, but its terrible, should be South Coast Dragons

New Brandings are better than the old school specific suburb name
Easts aren't eastern suburbs, they were Sydney City in the 90s, now just Sydney

To me a brand isn't the name of the locale, its the Mascot and area it represents, the name should be broaden enough to branch out and gain territory in fan base and junior catchments,
Brisbane broncoes are not defined by a certain suburb

We dissagree big time on the virtues of the BALMAIN name. It's extremely iconic and noteworthy both historically and culturally. Having Campbelltown added makes the joining of the two areas more palatable. Balmain Campbelltown Tigers even sounds good. It would have been worth the imaginative effort in my opinion. Instead we get vague team names.

The Balmain district is a well known foundation area for the games origins. Plenty of significant associations with this renowned inner Western suburb of Sydney. It's extremely iconic. A very culturally significant part of Sydney. Their are description/sayings like "Balmain Gold " For example: the Richmond Tigers in Melbourne would be just as iconic as the Balmain Tigers in Sydney. This matters and gives such a club an advantage on others without such iconic status. It matters to fans and neutrals.

? My point is about the name of that club. I believe Balmain Campbelltown Tigers is a much better option than Wests Tigers. That's it ! Nothing else to read into it . A simple concise (for some) comment/suggestion on the name of a club.

Look at it another way. South Sydney Rabbitohs saved rugby league in Australia. Knowledge that the battler can come back from an unfair ruling has won that club many more fans. It's also reinvigorated the league which was looking pretty poor in substance and credibility!

They got very very lucky. They were broke and going under until Crowe and Holme court stepped in. If they hadn’t it’s likely the nrl would have been proven right and they’d be gone anyway.
