You make some very good paoints. We should have signed a halfback but didn't. Losing Prince was a huge loss not only for the club but also Marshall.

But we did sign a halfback, Mat Head, but Sheens refused to use him. Head played less than half a season before being unceremoniously punted. The bloke clearly has a good football brain, but Sheens preferred Johnny Cronk in the halves.

How much credit can you give to Sheens?

Did he convince a bunch of 16 year olds to play for the Tigers?

He can only be credited with getting them into FG and performing well once there.

This, and 1 more point . . . . How much can you credit the coach with our GF win ?.
Really, the style of footy with which we won the comp is very little to do with coaching. The stain's win in 2010 was all about coaching.
Ours was individual and team flair and creativity. The coach had f**k all to do with most of that, IMHO

Under Sheens, I don't think we lost a junior we wanted to keep. Hoffman departed during the period just before Sheens took over.

He also took a personal interest in the juniors. For example, when Brooks broke his leg for the first time Sheens wanted him looked after. Even at that stage, Brooks was viewed as a future NRL half by Sheens.

Let's be honest, he can put a very good junior development programme together. The players in the NRL now and in NYC are part of his programme.

Poor old Matt had bad knees but an outstanding football brain. He demonstrated this with his SG Ball win this year and I hope he can move on to replace Payten next year as NYC coach.
