Has Cook?
Even my Dragons mates are saying how Mcturtle doesn't deserve origin this year... he's just doing his business solidly with his tackling!

He's being hyped up and overrated too much just as he's in the flying Dragons team!

That's not gonna get us anywhere against the Maroons!

No--I don't think he's played in one!??

He has captained the KANGAROOS though!!

Yeah it’s just an observation. Honestly i rate Fittler as a coach so whoever he picks I’ll be happy with. He’s a coach that won’t be scared to pick on form which I like. The dragons team will get decimated though lol.

The more Souths juniors in the NSW set up, the better for Souths i feel. It's why i support NSW after all.

If Saints continue on their winning way up to near SOO their team could very well be decimated.
They have 5 on the cusp of selection at this stage in Aitken,Frizell,de Belin,Vaughan & McInnes! Sims is an outsider.
If Sts keep winning, the mentioned players will make the grade, with McInnes guiding mostly his own pack in SOO!!!

In saying this;this is a very tough & even comp this season & it will be difficult for any side to maintain a long winning streak!!

Just a quiet stat...
Cook has scored 4 tries from 41 appearances so far, McInnes 6 from 39 apps with 5 of them coming from dummy half.

If Cam learns how to pick his runs from dummy half a lot like Smith does, he could very well go close to being the best 9 of his generation.

Mcinnes, Klemmer, James and Pearce out. Maloney can play number 7 and do it well. They should pick the best running 5/8th that we have. It’s probably out of Walker, Keary, Moylan and Green.

Merrin, Koroisau and Peachey in and NSW can have a real dig.

They need to stop picking the side on statistics alone. Origin is a completely different ball game.
Forget about Moylan he is not delivering much,Keary is hyped up,that leaves Green and the brilliant but sometimes erratic Walker.I doubt that Cody is robust enough, good enough yes but Green is a hefty sort of bloke and that's what they may need!

I think Moylan is hard done by sometimes but I get why people don’t want him there. His form doesn’t really warrant selection either. I’m not a fan of Keary either as I think he’ll disappear when NSW need him the most.

I’m all for Green. I think he’s an extremely underrated player. Like Maloney wherever he goes he seems to take success with him. Just look at how manly are going now that he’s gone. You chuck Api and T Trbo into 9 and 1 then you have some former club connections going as well.

Maloney/Green for this year works fantastic imo. At least until Cleary can regain some form after his injury.

That's what I think as well, origin is a different arena and NSW need players that can tough it out and then hit back.

Moylan's best position is FB but compared to Trbojevic and Tedesco, he's not close to a start.
Who cares really,if NSW win there probably won't be any Souths players in there as usual, apart from Angus being a bolter
Qld are looking like a retirement village.
Should be a cracker of a game! Lol

Let's have a look at the contenders for the NSW 9. From the NRL app.

Cook 87.7% tackle eff 109 av metres
McInnes 95.1% 46.8m
Koroisau 86.4% 46.2m
Wallace 91.0% 31.4m

So while Cook easily has the most run metres, he also comfortably misses more tackles than Mcinnes and Wallace and love it or hate it, defence is a big part of what playing hooker is about. Especially at Origin. It's not an accident that Wallace and McInnes have a combined record of 9-1 this season.

For the sake of comparison, let's look at those considered the best north of the border.

Smith 93.1% 31.4m
McCullough 96.8% 55.4m
Friend 90.4% 22.6m

Friend isn't playing 80 minutes which will have an effect on his metres but as we see, McCullough is the only other 9 outside of Cook who averages more than 50 and not by much. All three tackle at over 90% and all three are vital cogs in sides that while perhaps struggling a bit this season so far, have been perennial top 4 contenders.

For mine, Koroisau's ability to play in the halves makes him an ideal candidate for the 14 come game one and it's between McInnes and Wallace for the starting 9.
The most important statistic is wins and Cook despite all of his run metres, his record isn't great.

But if you’re gonna talk about tackle efficiency shouldn’t you talk about the forward packs they play around as well? Mcinnes and Wallace play around 2 of the best forward packs in the competition. The reason why this is so important is because a missed tackle is counted when there is an offload and some teams are much better at preventing that than others. Souths’ big boys are terrible at wrapping the ball up whilst the Dragons and Panthers do a much better job of it. There is also less of a chance that Mcinnes will be left by himself considering he’s got two world class props outside of him plus a NSW rep in JDB.

Tackle efficiencies are always gonna be higher when you’re not doing as much running either. That’s just common sense. You’re gonna be more fatigued from running so tackling will be harder. You can’t just say running is insignificant and tackling matters more in origin because it’s a subjective statement. Last year NSW played with a player who imo is an exact model of Mcinnes in Nathan Peats. It was fine for the first game because we had an X factor in Fifita who the opposition couldn’t handle but as soon as they figured him out we had nothing. They rolled over us and Peats offered nothing in attack. Mcinnes is the same. He doesn’t offer anything in attack besides the occasional dive for the try line which a team like QLD aren’t going to fall for. Even last week Cook created an opportunity for our first try against the dragons yet their were no support runners because we were exhausted from all the defending we had to do. Would’ve been a try if Maloney or Trbojevic were playing though.

Which brings me to my next point about rosters. You can’t use wins as a factor of who’s a better hooker. The whole time Cook has been at Souths we have been struggling. Mcinnes didn’t fix that when he was here and neither did Farah so I don’t really know how you can use that as a point for origin contention.

You can’t just use one stat and start ranking hookers accordingly. It just doesn’t work. It doesn’t fit their playing ability. Mcinnes best attribute is tackling so obviously it’s going to favour him to talk about tackling efficiency.
