Corey Norman??

I am concerned that the signing of Norman now has been done to bring forward Widdop's departure date by about a year ie soon. Why else sign a high cost half (and yes I am aware Parra will be be paying a good portion of his salary in 2019) when a high quality big fast winger is what is really needed, if Widdop was really staying.
That was my concern also, I wondered why we would sign him to be off the bench for a year.

thanks brother

Yes I think we can give it one HELL of a shake now due to our depth......with Norman in his crack spot as half ( with Widdop will be a deadly combo), total attacking barrage with Dufter and Lomax backing up) and Hunt, well being the current Australian hooker he should move there and get breaks from mcinnis off the bench, Robson, Field can still have a go Im sure therell be periods for them, specially during origin, but yes we have the depth now I think to really take back our rightful place as Kings of league again

with Luch coming off the bench I think well be an ATTACKING barrage!!
I worry about the Hunt to hooker thing for two reasons:
1. He would have to tackle his heart out every game. Not like international games that occur every now and then.
2. Probably the most important point is that SGI is looking to develop Robson into a regular first grade player - probably in the triangle role rotating with the hooker and the lock. McInnes and Robson can more than adequately cover the hooker position and in rotation they bring variety and a different set of skills to the job. Of course in attack, Hunt can now and again jump into the dummy half position to execute set plays.

Mary will fit both Norman and Widdop into the run on 13 and a lot will depend on the progress of Dufty at fullback and the form of Lafai. I've said in other posts that having all three halves on the field at the same time could cause havoc to the opposition in attack.

Yep, I believe once Norman has signed, Widdop will go.
Also, this story seems to indicate that the eels won't contributed a great deal towards Norman's salary.

https://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/c...t/news-story/005cdd8dc41815e0e03575c2a73b3fd4

They have already paid him 2 months salary ....".The deal is expected to be completed this week — by which time the Eels will have already paid Norman two months of wages added to their 2019 salary cap, reportedly worth $160,000."

We are allegedly paying ..."Norman was set to earn $940,000 with the Eels in 2019, but his deal at St George would be worth just $600,000 in 2019,"

Would be very surprised if Widdop doesn't stay around for 2019...

Mann or Norman ?

While I liked Mann , he is not a game changer , whereas Norman is .

I believe he is a direct replacement for Mann and really good back up for Hunt/ Widdop/ Dufty

A great back up if you’re right.
Expensive and risky though.
Hope it works out.

Westbank?
Are we playing in Perth?
Hard to visit ex-players in gaol from Perth.
Anyway, we are usually prepping for our annual May/June GF by then.

Corey Norman joins Dragons after Eels grant immediate release

Corey Norman will join St George Illawarra immediately after being granted a release from the final year of his Parramatta contract.

The Eels have been keen to offload either Norman or Mitchell Moses after the pair struggled to gel during a difficult season that finished with the wooden spoon. Norman’s departure will free up Moses to be the main half at Parramatta and give the Dragons the added backline depth they were craving.

The addition of Norman will likely prompt the Red V to look more favourably at the prospect of an early release for Gareth Widdop. The Dragons skipper is contracted for three more seasons, but has indicated he wants to finish his career in the Super League. Coach Paul McGregor now has the option of playing Norman alongside Ben Hunt in the halves, allowing Widdop to fill the No.1 jersey. Alternatively, Norman could drop back to fullback, having spent time there during his stints with the Eels and Broncos.

While the Eels will have to pay some of Norman’s freight, his departure will free up salary cap space. The club had only $200,000 to spend for 2019 with Norman on the books, but that figure will now likely triple.

The Eels have several halves options as they seek a playmaking partner for Moses, including young gun Dylan Brown, Jaemon Salmon and Will Smith.

The Dragons on Thursday announced the retention of forward Tariq Sims on a three-year extension.
