i agree with you and i wished thats how it worked
i get it, but its up to the NRL to police it, can you imagine if we organised $1m dollars worth of TPA's, won the comp and then we got busted for it and premiership taken off us, the first people saying we should acquire the TPA's would be the first giving it to the club for doing so...

once again i agree with you but getting the NRL to police/run it is making way to much sence. plus i dont think you would get uncle nick to agree with it and im NOT joking.

Amazing that some of us on here for years have been saying Widdop is a FB, not a 5/8, and have been told to shut up.
Well for those who refused to believe Widdop should have never been our 5/8, eat humble pie, finally common sense, fullback it is.

And don’t blame his shoulder, have a look at Cronk, he played a GF busted and he will be back at No 7, finally the club realises Widdop is not the play maker we need.

And it’s got Nothing to do with Widdop leaving at end of 2019, Norman does not need 12 months practice at number 6, this is the club finally owning up to the teams current shortcomings.
You cant be serious. So this your rationale about you know why and what is going to happen. You dont like Widdop I get it.
For me he has proved to be more of a top tier No 6 in the NRL and done well for our club carrying us on his own back in his early years in more games than not.

I know this is completely out of left field, but Is there any chance that Norman is actually a replacement for Hunt?

Hunt wouldn't be the first bloke to get homesick and wind up at Brisbane, and there are rumours linking nikorima with a move to the warriors.

Certainly not beyond the realm of possibility.

I know a bloke who knows Adam Reynolds personally and apparently long before the Bennett/Seibold swap was publically mooted, he was asked if he would be open to "coach following".
This indicates that Seibold aware he needs a new specialist #7.

However, I can't see the Brisbane board signing off on any contract that comes close to what Hunt is on here. From some reports, he's not well liked north of the border and that goes beyond the famous dropped ball.

He'd have to take a pay cut no doubt, which he may be willing to do if there's personal motivations. If true about being disliked it'd seem pretty unlikely to happen though.

I wonder if we would chase hunt on a big dollar contract for 2019 of we had the following spine:

1. Dufty
6. Widdop
7. Norman
9. McInnes
14. Robson

A friend of mind was walking home in Bondi last sat night and a taxi pulled up in front of him. Four young men got out the worse for wear. One was a player on the verge of joining us. I’m having second thoughts.

I'm looking forward to his recruitment as long as he takes this seriously. Maybe I'm a little optimistic but the Eels have proven toxic year after year. I have high hopes Xx

I don't think it is all so cut and dry. There are good aguments for both sides of this debate. My take is that if it were Hunt moving on and Widdop staying, we would have the perfect halves combination. Hunt is a highly professional player who does his best at 7 each game however, there is a reason he has not cemented the 7 spot at SOO or international level; he is a running half rather than an organising half, he would prefer another player close out a game rather than himself. Norman is an organising half and is very capable in closing out a game. Widdop finds it difficult to close out a game.

So in 2019, I think you will find our halves combination will be Norman and Hunt and no matter what number they ware on their back, it will be Hunt running and looking for opportunities and Norman organising and running the team.

If Norman does end up at the Dragons and it looks likely he will, I predict he will knuckle down and maybe even secure a halves spot in the Qld side. He is the type of player both the Dragons and the Queenslanders are missing in their line-up.
Very good post possm

Maybe a sea change will do him well.

I wonder if he'll move down to the Gong n get away from Sydney's bad influences.

I have long thought that Dufty may benefit from a stint on the wing in first grade. Any such move would require him to take he first opportunity to step inside rather than hug the sideline when returning the ball.

Dufty has the speed and elusiveness to burn the opposition out wide however, the same problems he is facing right now at fullback are there to be overcome on the wing.

Defence and a fearless attitude to taking the high ball and returning it without fear of being rag dolled or hammered will be challengers he must conquer. The only plus will be he will be on one side of the field rather than having players from both sides challenging him.
I can't see Dufty on the wing in today's game. I can't see Dufty taking hit ups. I think his defence would be exposed on the wing and I wouldn't like to see him up against big wingers when taking high kicks.

You do know the club doesn't organise the players TPA, it's up to the manager/player/relative/anyone to organise it, NOT THE CLUB, if the club does then it counts towards the salary cap.
In theory only. Everyone knows that most TPA's are linked clubs. A player will receive a nice TPA if he plays for a certain club, but will not receive them if he doesn't play for that certain club.

Is this one of those we have to guess what happened themed stories where you can only YES or NO?.

I get an uneasy feeling with Norman coming, in particular, Dufty. One moment he out fullback and one minute he would be granted a release for 2019.
There are things going on which we don’t know anything about.
I personally am thinking 2019 is not going to be our year.

Of course he has been the best 5/8 at our club, there has been no other half decent signing for 5/8, but finally we have a half decent one in Norman, and within 5 seconds Widdop is moved to FB as he should have been years ago......with a decent 5/8 also signed years ago.

The fact is we have done nothing in the past 5 years, we have missed the finals or scraped into them, we have been smashed from pillar to post in many games, as well as not closing out games we should have won.

We blame Mary, sure, however, Widdop has been a part of this era, as our 5/8 and captain, it ain’t all Mary.

He was 5/8 because the club didn’t get a decent one to put there, but as soon as we have one, exit Widdop to FB. Therein lies the truth. I don’t like Widdop as 5/8, never have, I am not going to lie about it.
So we move Widdop to FB because now we a 'half decent 5/8 in Norman...' . We move Widdop because over the last five years he has not delivered and we move in Norman a 5/8 who has delivered.....is it two or three wooden spoons he helped Parramatta win?

If matters are resolved in the right manner, maybe this will bring the players even closer and be the main reason for a very successful season.
