It's footy, if you end up on the ground not held and get belted so be it.

I get the hurt feelings etc.
but we don't want it heading towards oztag do we?

It's probably a Millward mess though. I blame Mary.
Yeah its footy but its poor sportsmanship IMO. A true champion would make the tackle and when the player is down and out maybe show some concern or at very least not grin and smile.
I'm not questioning the tackle so much on Dufty but more the sense of achievement he showed after smashing someone 30KGs lighter than him.
And the Norman tackle was deadset reckless, he will get himself in trouble if he continues that type of defense.

Corey Norman's post-surgery update gives Dragons fans hope

St George Illawarra fans have received a welcome boost ahead of magic round with news that Corey Norman and Tyson Frizell’s injuries are less serious than first feared.

Norman was laid out on the turf at Bankwest Stadium during Sunday’s 32-18 win over the Dragons in the process of setting up winger Mikaele Ravalawa for a try in the right corner of the ground, and was blindsided by Eels winger Maiko Sivo's shoot in defence.

Norman watched the rest of the Dragons' 32-14 defeat from the sheds as Euan Aitken was substituted to right centre and Zac Lomax shifted to the centres.

“I spoke to Corey last night after surgery,” Dragons head of athletic performance Nathan Pickworth said Thursday. “He’s back home resting up; he’s a bit swollen at the moment, but he’s in good spirits and had the fracture stabilised in surgery yesterday.”

“The return to play on that is about three weeks.

“The result in terms of the surgical outcome and the return to play is not too bad.”

That’s a significant improvement over initial concerns for Norman

"Corey's got either a fractured or broken cheekbone," McGregor said at the post-match press conference.

"… He'll probably miss four to six weeks, I would think."

Dragons coach Paul McGregor was also sweating on the fitness of star forward Tyson Frizell, who failed to complete the match after an ugly gash to the face following some friendly fire from Blake Lawrie.

“Monday morning his eye was fat and swollen and he couldn’t really open his eye too much; that’s just what happens when you get a deep finger to the eye,” Pickworth said.

“He’s improved significantly in the past two days and he’s training fully today. He’ll be right to take his place this weekend.”

Dragons 2019: Norman's mind clear ahead of injury return
Dragons Den

DRAGONS half Corey Norman says he won't be carrying any scars - physical or mental - when he returns from a fractured cheekbone against Canterbury next week.

A famously chilled character, Norman isn't even sure exactly what the surgeon did to repair the fracture suffered against former club Parramatta in round eight.

Such injuries can often play on the mind, but Norman says his biggest mental challenge has been boredom.

"I don't think about those kind of things," Norman said.

"The first couple of weeks were just pretty boring to be honest. You obviously can't do much so I was just doing some body weights and light running and that was about it so the days do drag on.

"It wasn't a screw or a plate or anything like that, they just went in through the temple and then popped it out and I think it just mends itself.

"I don't really know so I might be making it up but they just said they popped it out and that was it.

"It's feeling good, I'm back into contact and it hasn't come into my mind so I'm clearly past the injury and ready to play some footy."

It proved a turning point of sorts for the Dragons, who haven't won a match since without their star No. 6, dropping five straight games to slump to 13th on the ladder.

James Graham and Tim Lafai are also facing extended stints on the sideline, compounding what's been a virtual injury crisis through the first half of the season.

Admittedly, Norman hasn't kept to close an eye on his side's performances while he's been out of action, but he's confident they can reboot out of the bye weekend.

"I'm not a good watcher," he said.

"I'll do a fair bit of video this week looking at our past games and stuff like that but when you're out, you're out, you don't want to be thinking too much about football.

"I'm back this week and that's where I'll jump back into it. I'm just going to go about my week like a normal week but obviously I want to lead from the front and get the job done.

"[We have] a bit of an injury toll but that's football, we've just got to deal with it and move on. We're still playing some good footy.

"We've been in all the games, we've just clocked off for 15-20 minutes defensively and it's really cost us. If we just come with a defensive mentality, we've still got plenty footy in us."

The Dragons turned on their best performance of the season the last time they met the Bulldogs, running in seven tries in a 40-4 win, but Norman says his side need to push that result out their mind.

"It definitely won't be like last time, I think we've got to go into the game knowing that," Norman said.

"That was six weeks ago, they're a different side, they're a real effort side and we're definitely need to come with the same effort, if not more to get over the line.

"We haven't obviously been getting the results that we wanted the last few weeks but we had the bye this week and everyone's really freshened up and it itching to get back on the field."

Just watched the interview with Corey Norman. A couple of things worried me.
He said we had lost 4 in a row. Isn't it 5 in a row?
He said we have to stick to our systems. Do we? Our systems seem to suck a bit.
He seemed happy. Why?
Then it dawned on me, he came from Parramatta, he is used to losing.

No we won 4 halves of football against Nulla, NZ, Roosters & Parra. That equals a 1 game win with no competition points. They feel sorry for Mary so we going to get a bonus 2 points at the end of the year so it's like we only lost 4 in a row.
That would be it!

Isn’t that a 2 game win?
I actually thought it equals 0 wins. It is Corey and Mary's team we are talking about. Mary will spruik this in his press conference how well we play for 40 mins. They think they are entitled to be higher up the ladder because if it.

Norman ready to help stem Dragons slide
  • NRL
    r0_0_800_600_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg

Corey Norman is set to return from injury to boost struggling St George Illawarra.
Corey Norman has declared himself ready to return from injury and help St George Illawarra end their spiralling slide down the NRL ladder.

Norman hasn't played since fracturing his cheekbone in their round-eight loss to Parramatta, one of five straight defeats that has left them languishing in 13th spot.

But the star five-eighth is expected to be named by coach Paul McGregor for Monday's Queen's Birthday clash with Canterbury.

"I was going to play (last) week if we had a game but obviously we had the bye and it was good to get away," Norman said.

"I'll be ready to play against the Bulldogs.

"I got a bit bored sitting on the sidelines. Training's boring when you can't do much with your face. So I'm excited to jump back in and play some footy."

Norman's inclusion is a welcome sight for a Dragons side that, like many NRL clubs this year, have been forced to reach deep into their rosters.

Skipper Gareth Widdop (shoulder), James Graham (leg) and Tim Lafai (ankle) are all on their long-term casualty list, while Jack de Belin remains stood down.

Norman said the entire team needed to band together to arrest their alarming slump that includes failing to complete 80 per cent in all five losses.

"We'll do it as a team. As a team we need to get out of this rut and we're looking forward to doing it on Monday," Norman said.

"We just haven't given ourselves a chance. We've dropped the ball, our possession's poor.

"And we've clocked off 10-20 minutes defensively in a lot of games. Teams just came over the top of us and we just didn't have enough power to come back.

"We need to hold the ball and get our defence right."

Norman strikes me as someone who sings from his own hymn sheet. We'd be dead last if he wasn't this way because you'd struggle to find another Dragon with confidence and calmness to kick those two field goals. He doesn't seem to let pressure get to him, unlike his halves partner and basically the rest of the team. Not completely convinced he will ever make it big at Dragons but we can't go any worse with him added.

Norman back today made a massive difference. He is our rudder, he is our real number 7. Hunt and the rest of the team play better when Norman is on the field.

Gee Norman had a good game. The setup with Norman on the right and Hunt on the left works well. As Norman said after the game - we just need to get our defence right. It’s cost us at least 2 of those games. Around the ruck is a massive issue. We need to recruit a defensive lock. McInness needs to lift his game. I’d also be look at Friz and Sims to spend a bit of time there in defence.

Spot on Frank Norman can play . I am a bit noncerned with the middle of the ruck defence. The loss of De Bellin is hurting us there
I'd say we need to play Frizell at lock, Vaughan and RCG as starting props with K Sims and anyone of Graham, Lawrie, Kerr, Timm or even Leilua to come off the bench and play in the middle. Host to play at as our right edge forward and Robson as our utility player.

'I am ready now': Perth camp prepares Norman for Origin debut

Dragons playmaker Corey Norman believes the time he spent in camp with Queensland before Origin II will help prepare him for next week’s series decider against NSW at ANZ Stadium after being called up for his debut with the Maroons.

Norman will join St George Illawarra halves partner Ben Hunt in the Queensland team, replacing injured Newcastle fullback Kalyn Ponga in the squad although coach Kevin Walters is yet to indicate where the Maroons rookie will line up on game night.

After attending the 2018 and 2019 Emerging Maroons camps, Norman was 18th man in Perth and almost received a late call-up the day before the game after Moses Mbye suffered a near-fatal allergic reaction.

He also trained in the halves while captain Daly Cherry-Evans sat out a session before the June 23 loss at Optus Stadium with an ankle injury.

"It was a good experience just to spend a week or six days with the boys in camp and I enjoyed it," Norman told NRL.com.

"I’ve been around the team and I know their plays and what-not now so that was good. I have had my opportunities before and I feel that I am ready now.

Queensland - Origin III team announcement

"I jumped into training when Chez wasn’t training and it was just good to be in camp and get to see how they do things. You know that you aren’t playing but you are in and around the boys and just to see the way they operate and prepare was probably the best thing."

While Norman was never officially on standby for Moses, he would have been the obvious choice to replace him as he can play halfback, five-eighth, fullback or dummy-half.

Instead he watched the kick-off from the sideline and soaked up the Origin atmosphere.

"I saw Moses there after it happened and he was fine so I didn’t get my hopes up or anything," Norman said. "I was on the sideline until it started raining. I sprinted for the tunnel after that and watched the rest of the game in a box. It was a great atmosphere."

Norman’s selection caps a turnaround in fortunes for the 28-year-old after he was released by Parramatta at the end of last season and joined the Dragons early this year as the long-term replacement for departing captain Gareth Widdop.

A left-footed kicker, he has combined well with Hunt in the halves and the pair will continue an association that began in the Broncos under 20s in Origin next Wednesday night.

"Our games just complement each other’s so much," Norman said. "I thought Benny played really good on Friday night [against the Cowboys], he really stood up and controlled the game.

"I have really enjoyed the move. Our season obviously hasn’t been the best season we could have put together, but we have got a good chance now to make a run for it but we have got to be a lot more consistent."
